Families for Russian and Ukrainian Adoption, including neighboring countries

Welcome to the Washington DC Chapter of Families for Russian and Ukrainian Adoption (FRUA). We are one of many chapters of National FRUA. Our chapter is unique in the fact that we welcome and support members from Washington DC, Maryland, Northern Virginia, West Virginia, and Delaware. We are the largest chapter in FRUA with over 250 members.

We provide support to families who have adopted or who are in the process of adopting from Russia and the former Soviet block countries. We do this by providing our members with a support network that helps with parenting and a wide range of adoption issues. We coordinate regular events offering outstanding adoption information.

Special Upcoming FRUA Activities!!!

Virginia FRUA Families' Picnic on June 8

Place: Meadowlane Park in Vienna
400 Courthouse Road, SW
(at the intersection of Courthouse Road and Glen Avenue)
Time: 12:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Join FRUA families for a chance to catch up or make new friends!

FRUA has reserved the picnic pavilion and will provide paper products. Please bring munchies, dessert, or side dish to share along with a picnic entrée and drinks for your own family. There are grill facilities at the park.

The park is in a quiet neighborhood with activities for all ages. For the younger kids, there is an enclosed play area and lots of trees to provide shade. For older kids, there is tennis, basketball, kick ball, and other activities. Feel free to bring basketballs, tennis rackets, soccer or kick ball, bubbles, lawn games, balls, sidewalk chalk, or other toys for the kids.

RSVP to Elaine Soya by sending e-mail to frua-dc@onebox.com by June 1. Please indicate how many adults/children will be attending and what type of food you plan to share. Also let us know if you can help to plan activities for the younger attendees.

If the weather is inclement, the picnic will be cancelled. A notice will be posted on www.frua.org/dc indicating the status of the picnic.

Hope to see you there!

Maryland FRUA Families' Picnic on June 21

Place: Cathedral Gardens Picnic Grounds
6480 Elibank Dr, Elkridge MD
(This is between exits 43 & 47 of I-95)
Time: 12p.m. to 4 p.m.

Join other FRUA families for our Fifth Annual BYOE Picnic- Bring your Own Everything. We provide the time and place, you provide the rest.

Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church has graciously agreed again to host our group at their picnic grounds, Cathedral Gardens, in Elkridge Maryland. Cathedral Gardens has a full playground, as well as lawns for games, and a large covered pavilion with picnic tables

Cost: A suggested donation of $5 per family, to be donated to Holy Trinity for the use of the picnic grounds

Things to bring: Food & beverage for your family, and a dessert or snack to share, as well as lawn chairs, games, athletic equipment- whatever will keep your kids occupied!

Things to do: PLAY and Visit! This is a great event because the kids just play and the grown-ups have a chance to visit. This is our kids' favorite FRUA event of the year.

Cathedral Gardens does not have trash removal service, so we do ask each family to take their trash with them.

Please rsvp by sending Eileen an e-mail at frua-dc@cablespeed.com. In case of inclement weather, those who emailed will be notified, and a message will be left on the FRUA hotline (866) 206- 9067 X6940.
