Lion Buddy Hayes, formerly of the Chesapeake Southside Lions Club with her Canine Companions for Independence service dog, Ellie, is shown with Lion Jim Purton, Jewell Bennett, CCI puppy raiser for Ellie, and Lion Dave Gurtner, with CCI pup in training Savoy, on the evening of April 14, 2007 after Lion Buddy was crowned Ms. Wheelchair Virginia.

You can visit the Ms. Wheelchair Virginia web site at http://www.mswheelchairva.com/ for more information.

Canine Companions for Independence provides service dogs nationwide free of charge for disabilities other than blindness. Visit the web site at www.cci.org

On July 28, 2007, Lion Buddy competed in the Ms. Wheelchair America pageant and received the distinguished Todd Mullins Courage Award for her public speaking ability.

Lions everywhere are extremely proud of her accomplishments. Congratulations Lion Buddy & Ellie, too!

UPDATE: Buddy leaves Virginia.

In June, 2008, Buddy sold her house and moved to sunny New Mexico where the climate will be better for her condition. She has already made friends in the CCI puppy raising community in her new neighborhood. She is in the process of transferring to a local Lions Club as well. GOOD LUCK BUDDY & ELLIE!
