The Greater Falls Run Lions Club Welcomes You To Our Award Winning Web Site!

Lions is a service organization, not a social club. We help people in need locally and all over the world.

The Greater Falls Run Lions Club received a charter from Lions Clubs International on March 16, 2005. We live and serve in the area of Hartwood, Falmouth, and White Oak in Southern Stafford County, Virginia near the City of Fredericksburg.

Our members are mainly residents of the active adult (55+) community of Falls Run in historic Stafford County. We currently have about 65 members but are always looking for ways to recruit new Lions into the club to better serve the community.

Our club mission statement is: "To serve our community and beyond by providing voluntary services and raising funds for humanitarian activities."

The Lions International Mission Statements are:

Vision Statement:

To be the global leader in community and humanitarian service.

Mission Statement:

To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.

About our club:  The Greater Falls Run Lions Club is vibrant and growing. We are mostly new Lions and so we are also learning how to be good Lions and how best to serve our community.

For more information contact Lion Jim Purton at 540-368-2960

We meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month at Cannon Ridge Golf Club, 9000 Celebrate Pkwy, Fredericksburg. Meetings begin at noon with social time about 11:45 AM.

We have guest speakers at nearly all our meetings.
We also try to have a little fun.

Please join us at one of our meetings!

UPDATE: AWARD received for Best Lions Club Web Site in Virginia. See Club Activities & Awards page at left for more information.

  Lions & Dogs

Lions know dogs can help people, so Lions Clubs everywhere support non-profit agencies like Leader Dogs and Canine Companions for Independence. These organizations provide service dogs to qualified individuals at no cost.

Club Activities:
Our club is active in quite a few projects, including the sales of citrus fruit, Attractions Dining coupon books, and White House Christmas ornaments.

JUST IN TIME FOR SUMMER STORM and HURRICANE SEASON:

*****We have just added the sale of emergency alert weather radios to our project list. Our prices are great and we include the batteries and setup. For more information about the Midland 100 & 300 models please look at the links section on the left. To order a radio contact Lion Dick Shearer at 540-372-3399. The 100 is $34.95 and the 300 is $49.95 including shipping.

NEW SERVICE PROJECT:

Beginning in July, 2008 our club members will now assist homeowners with the replacement of difficult to reach smoke detector batteries in their homes. Homeowners must supply the batteries. The Lions provide the manpower & step ladder. Contact Lion Helen Harlow at 540-373-4890 to schedule.

Every summer, we collect new supplies & equipment to donate to the local elementary schools.

STAMPS FOR THE WOUNDED is a program that collects used postage stamps and gives them to wounded veterans who use them for hobbies.

Last year we completed our first Peace Poster Contest. See the page on the left with information about this great art contest of world wide proportions.

We collect used computers which are then reconditioned and given to sight impaired people with special software allowing them to lead more normal lives.

We also collect used eyeglasses, hearing aids and cell phones as well as empty printer cartridges, all of which support various Lions community projects for helping those in need.

We actively seek donations of automobiles, for which the donor receives a full value deduction on federal taxes, due to the innovative way Lions runs it's program. See the page with information at left.

Two of our club's most popular projects are Leader Dogs for the Blind and Canine Companions for Independence. Both of these organizations provide service dogs for the disabled.

We also work with our local Habitat for Humanity office by collecting aluminum cans for recycling.

Our club also sponsors Red Cross blood drives, the Lions Sight and Hearing van and a semi-annual used book sale.

"FOOTBALL MANIA" continues this season.

We love our local history. Our club sponsored a lecture by local authors/historians Mr. Al Conner and his wife, Jane, who spoke about the history of Stafford County. It was very good and well received. See the links for more information about Stafford's history. It's amazing!
