NEWS

The LPH Bake Sale was a huge success, raising $540. This is more than we've made any other year. Thank you to everyone who donated baked goods and contributed their time to help sell.

This year LPH is taking part in a book drive for children. We plan to setup a booth in December at Green Valley Book Fair to collect donations. We need people to sit at the booth, make flyers, distribute flyers, etc. If you are interested in helping, contact Theresa Kattula.

Laura is organizing a speech workshop for the spring at Thomas Harrison Middle School. Contact Laura Kiefer for more info.

We have vintage LPH t-shirts for sale for a limited time. $5 for all short- and long-sleeved t-shirts.

The induction dinner will take place at Taste of Thai again this year. The cost has already been included in dues. It will take place January 31, 2007.

Lambda Pi Eta

Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) is the official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA). As an accredited member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), LPH has nearly 300 active chapters at colleges and universities worldwide. Gamma Beta, JMU’s current chapter, was founded in 1994.

LPH represents what Aristotle described in his book, Rhetoric, as the three ingredients of persuasion: Logos (Lambda) meaning logic, Pathos (Pi) relating to emotion, and Ethos (Eta) defined as character, credibility, and ethics.

Our Purpose:  The purpose of Lambda Pi Eta (LPH)/Gamma Beta Chapter is to educate and honor students in the field of communication, while giving them a forum within which they can voice opinions and be active in promoting understanding of the field through service on campus and in the community.

  • Vice President: Laura Keifer
  • Secretary: Jessica Zak

    Our Goals:
The goals of LPH are to: recognize, foster, and reward outstanding scholastic achievement at JMU; stimulate interest (discussion and exchange of ideas) in the field of communication; promote and encourage professional development among communication majors; provide an opportunity for members to be involved in the Harrisonburg community; service, establish, and maintain close relationships and understanding between faculty and students; explore options for further graduate studies and/or work in the field; and represent James Madison University and the national association with pride and integrity.
