The Old Town Alexandria Chapter (OTAC) was introduced to the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) family as an official chapter of IAAP and the Virginia Division on June 7, 2005. The installation took place at the SHRM National Headquarters Building located in Alexandria, VA where the International Director, Tia Theriaque, CAP, presided over the ceremony. The OTAC branch of IAAP is the first chapter to come to the Northern Virginia area.

As OTAC makes its presence in the Northern Virginia, the membership has enrolled over 40 members to date and is constantly growing.

At OTAC, we believe in the three essential elements that make up a successful Administrative Professional:

Continued Education: Whether it’s going back to college to earn a degree, attending seminars and conferences to enhance technical, interpersonal, and communication skills, or workshops to keep up to date with the latest technology and administrative needs, education in any form or fashion is key.

Networking: Membership in a professional organization has its perks. There is an endless source of networking opportunities available. Administrative Professionals from far and near get a chance to meet others in the same profession and exchange ideas, tips and career opportunities that enable them to grow and develop their full potential.

Leadership Training: The leadership role in the Administrative Profession and becoming properly skilled and knowledgeable of how to be a leader is imperative in “climbing the ladder to success”. The professional world is made up of leaders and followers, and each is equally important as long as you know when to let your leadership ability shine.

OTAC is always striving for excellence!
