Congratulations to the new Miss Loudoun County 2002 Miss Candace Rene Owens of Purcellville. The 46th Annual Miss Loudoun County Pageant was a great success. Lion Ed Poe and all the Lions and supporters involved conducted a fine show. The event raised over $7,000 for the charitable programs of the Purcellville Lions Club p> The death of departed Lion Marshall E. "Gene" Newkirk's Gene's wife Alice brings sadness to all of Purcellville. Alice Newkirk survived past District Governor Lion Gene by just six months. May they rest together in peace.

Sgt. Kelly

Purcellville Police Sergeant John Kelly spoke to Lions at a recent meeting. Sgt. Kelly addressed concerns over the current state of alert since September 11th and recent crime incidents near town.

With five prospective members as guests, two new members inducted, two guests from nearby Lions Clubs, and a speaker from the local police department November's first regular meeting was great. There was a lot of excitement - a mood of a club headed in the right direction. And the food was great as usual.

The First Annual Purcellville Lions Club Golf Turnament was held on Friday, October 5, 2001 at Virginia National. Lion Tom Melgaard organized this successful event which raised nearly $3,000.

The Annual Purcellville Lions Club Picnic was held on August 23rd next to Fireman's Field. Thanks to all Lions who attended and brought family.

Thanks for everyone's help with the recent Purcellville visit of the Lions Club District 24-A Sight and Hearing Van. This was the first time the van has been in Purcellville in many years. Over sixty people dropped by to have their eyes and ears checked. A good start to what will now be a regular event.

Lion Charlie Fishback drove his corvette in the 4th of July Purcellville Parade. Miss Loudoun County waved to the crowd from the back seat.

    Friendship, Community, Charity, Tradition...

The Lions Club of Purcellville offers an easy way to create lifelong friendships, engage in fellowship with neighbors, learn about the history of Purcellville, give something back to your community, and do charity work that really helps people.

We are actively recruiting new members. If you’re new to Purcellville, or perhaps looking for a way to increase your ties to the community, there’s no better time to join than now.

Since 1917, Lions have served the world's population through hard work and commitment to make a difference in the lives of people everywhere. With 1,402,645 members serving in more than 44,500 clubs in over 180 countries and areas, Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization. Lions are recognized worldwide for their service to the blind and visually impaired.

The Purcellville Lions Club was founded in 1938 and has been an active service organization ever since. Two members of the Purcellville Lions Club have served as District Governor for Lions of Virginia District 24-A. Lion Louis C. Gilroy served most recently during 1991-1992. Lion Marshall E. Newkirk served the 1955-1956 term.

Working to Help People in Need.

You’ve seen the Lions of Purcellville actively working to help our neighbors. We provide scholarships to local students seeking a college education. We assist regional SightFirst efforts to fight blindness. We also raise our own funds through community events like the annual Loudoun County beauty pageant and our local broom sale.

This fall and winter will be filled with Lions CLub activities. Students from Loudoun Valley High School will apply for Lions Club scholarships. The Lions Club Mobile Sight and Hearing Van will be in Purcellville to provide free sight and hearing tests to anyone who needs them. The 46th annual Miss Loudoun County Pageant has just been held. With more participation in committee meetings and several enthusiastic new members more activities are sure to be added to the schedule.

The best way to see if joining the Lions Club is right for you is to attend a regular meeting as a guest of a Lion.

We Serve, And So Can You.

Our Club Can Be Your Club.
Membership is open to men and women of legal majority and good reputation in the community, and is by invitation only. Clubs meet at least twice a month and elect officers annually. The association is governed by an international board of directors. Each year, more than 20,000 Lions attend their international convention to discuss new ideas, share experiences and reaffirm friendship and fellowship.

All it takes is a small commitment to two evening meetings and the price of a couple of dinners each month.
