With five prospective members as guests, two new members inducted, two guests from nearby Lions Clubs, and a speaker from the local police department November's first regular meeting was great. There was a lot of excitement - a mood of a club headed in the right direction. And the food was great as usual.

The First Annual Purcellville Lions Club Golf Turnament was held on Friday, October 5, 2001 at Virginia National. Lion Tom Melgaard organized this successful event which raised nearly $3,000.

The Annual Purcellville Lions Club Picnic was held on August 23rd next to Fireman's Field. Thanks to all Lions who attended and brought family.

Thanks for everyone's help with the recent Purcellville visit of the Lions Club District 24-A Sight and Hearing Van. This was the first time the van has been in Purcellville in many years. Over sixty people dropped by to have their eyes and ears checked. A good start to what will now be a regular event.

Is pleased to have again sponsored the
Miss Loudoun County Beauty Pageant
March 23, 2002 - 7:00 PM
Loudoun Valley High School - Purcellville, VA

Congratulations to the 2002 Miss Loudoun County

Candace Rene Owens of Purcellville

Purpose

  • To Provide an opportunity for young ladies of Loudoun County to compete in the areas of community service, beauty, and poise, with winners receiving monetary awards in the amount of $250, $150, $125 and $75 for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-6th places, respectively. All of the contestants gain the experience and confidence resulting from participation and competition.
  • To provide financial support for the Purcellville Lions Club’s continuing efforts in supporting sight and hearing conservation, scholarships, youth activities, and other charities.
History
  • The Miss Loudoun Beauty Pageant has been a tradition in Purcellville since 1956. The event has continued each year since that time. In its 46 years the pageant has raised over $100,000.00 for the benefit of the Purcellville Lions Club’s charitable programs. In recent years the Lions Club has used proceeds to provide college scholarships to local high school seniors.
How You Can Help
  • Make a contribution to support the event. Many local business firms and individuals have contributed in the past by becoming sponsors of the event and we are asking for your support again this year. There are three levels of support depending on the amount donated:
Patron $100

Subscriber $50

Contributor $25

  • Names of all supporters will be listed on the pageant program given to attendees of the event, on the Purcellville Lions Club web site at www.orgsites.com/va/purcellvillelions/, and in a newspaper advertisement for the event. All three listings provide a good opportunity for local businesses to demonstrate their community involvement.
  • Last year over 300 with programs reaching the hands of potential customers for your business. The web site will be visited by hundreds of individuals. Donations are also tax-deductible.
Who Benefits?
  • We all do – contestants, supporters, attendees, and, most significantly, the important and worthy programs supported throughout the year by your Lions Club. That should make us all feel good.
Join us in that good feeling!
