Dear Chairperson Aulebach,

Congratulations on your World Diabetes Day event!
What an honor, indeed, to have been recognized by the UN!

Many thanks for forwarding this additional information regarding your
special efforts and activities on World Diabetes Day. It must have been
a truly exciting event for you, especially to join with others worldwide,
all recognizing this global epidemic.

We will share your news with other Lions diabetes chairpersons.
May it have some impact on encouraging and motivating other Lions
involved with diabetes prevention and control.

If we can be of any further assistance to you with
our diabetes awareness program, or sight and hearing programs,
please contact us any time.

Kind regards,
Marilee

Brittany Perkins, a 7th grade student at Fluvanna Middle School, has taken the first step to becoming an internationally recognized artist by winning the local competition sponsored by the Rivanna Lions Club of Palmyra. Perkins’ poster was among more than 350,000 entries submitted worldwide in the 19th annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Lions International is sponsoring the contest to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere. “The world should communicate and act as one in peace, “ the 12 year old from Kents Store said. The poster was selected by Peter Christoffersen, Sara Foster and Elizabeth Ryan for its originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the contest theme, “World Peace.” The judging was held on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at Fluvanna Middle School with Lion Poster Chairwoman Florann Burnett overseeing the event. Brittany is the daughter of Connie and Mike Perkins of Kents Store. She was honored with her parents at a Rivanna Lions dinner meeting on November 8, 2006 at the Lake Monticello club house.

We place emphasis on the Lions’ motto “We Serve”, and are centered on the theme that unites us as Fluvanna residents....service to our community.

If you’d like to learn more about this growing service group, or are a relocated Lion, we invite you to attend a meeting. Our meetings are open to the public and the members welcome your questions about their activities and how you can give back to your community through membership.
