Despite the weather the Rivanna Lions were out in force at Old Farm Day held at Pleasant Grove on Saturday October 7th. SAHMSU (Sight and Hearing Mobile Screening Unit) owned by Lions of District 24-C was there as well. It is fitted with hearing booths, sight and glaucoma testing machines.
Trained members screened Fluvanna residents, free of charge, in an effort to identify possible sight/hearing problems. “Certified Technicians” were on board to evaluate results and suggest referrals to professionals, where deemed necessary.
Fluvanna residents who are unable to afford glasses or hearing-aids and meet certain criteria were given the opportunity to apply for club assistance.
In addition, we set up a table to publicize club participation in community activities, promote membership and sold the famous Lions brooms.
We look forward to participating at this event again next year.
