Our Fall Conference will be Friday and Saturday, September 26 and 27, 2008, at the Holiday Inn just at exit 225 off I-81 in Staunton.
The Fall Conference program will include a number of seminars on Saturday in addition to the cabinet and district meetings and social events. Rivanna Lions Golf Tournament:
The Rivanna Lions will be having their annual golf tournament on September 27th. If you would like to participate in the tournament please fill out this Entry Form and return it to Lion Ron or Lion Guy.

San Diego Lions Clubs: Help is on it's way from Virginia. San Diego Downtown Lions Clubs thanks Rivanna Lion Marcia Aulebach, Coordinator, and Peggy Shanklin (Realestate III), Co-coordinator, for there out reach program for the wild fire relief victims of San Diego, CA. Executive Director Lion Wierig of the San Diego downtown Lions Club and Lion Marcia Aulebach have been busy working very hard along with Rivanna Lions club President Dave Shanklin and his wonderful wife Peggy Shanklin whom used there home as a collection drop. Also the help of the Lake Monticello Community whom collected bedding, bath towels, and blankets, etc. to assist victims of the San Diego fires to get some much needed relief to rebuild there lives. A great big thank you also to the Salvation Army of the airport road shop for assisting in sending out a total of 21 bags of goods collected to go to the San Diego wild fire victims on October 31st to California. San Diego Downtown Lions would like to thank all the Rivanna Lions and Lake Monticello Community for all your support in this time of need.
Rivanna Lions Diabetes Awareness: Old Farm Day 2007: The Rivanna Lions were at Old Farm Day again this year with SAHMSU giving free sight and hearing screenings to all those who wished to have it done. Lion Marcia was there as well with her Diabetes Awareness information. The weather was great this year and we thank all those who volunteered and stopped by.
Fluvanna County Health Fair: The Rivanna Lions sponsored the 2nd Health Fair for Fluvanna County on June 2nd from 9 am to 2 pm. This event was FREE to the public and we would like to thank all of the participants. Many thanks to Lion Jim and Lion Gerry for all of their hard work in coordinating this event. Rivanna Lions White Cane Day April 14th 2007: The Rivanna Lions could be seen around the Lake on Saturday April 14th for the annual White Cane Day.
Rivanna Lions Charter Night March 28th 2007: The Rivanna Lions celebrated their 9th Charter Night on March 28th. Among the highlights of the night was the Melvin Jones Fellowship that was given to Lion Gerry Kojan. Lion Gerry is a charter member and has given many hours of her time to the community as a lion. Congratulations! We had a great turn out this year and it was great to see everyone.
Rivanna Lions International Peace Poster Contest: Brittany Perkins, a 7th grade student at Fluvanna Middle School, has taken the first step to becoming an internationally recognized artist by winning the local competition sponsored by the Rivanna Lions Club of Palmyra. Perkins’ poster was among more than 350,000 entries submitted worldwide in the 19th annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Lions International is sponsoring the contest to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere. “The world should communicate and act as one in peace, “ the 12 year old from Kents Store said. The poster was selected by Peter Christoffersen, Sara Foster and Elizabeth Ryan for its originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the contest theme, “World Peace.” The judging was held on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at Fluvanna Middle School with Lion Poster Chairwoman Florann Burnett overseeing the event. Brittany is the daughter of Connie and Mike Perkins of Kents Store. She was honored with her parents at a Rivanna Lions dinner meeting on November 8, 2006 at the Lake Monticello club house.

| Who we are....... A non-profit organization, the Rivanna Lions are part of the International Association of Lions Clubs, the world’s largest service association. Through our annual golf tournament,“White Cane Days”, annual citrus fruit sale for Christmas delivery, University of Virginia football ticket raffle, community yard sale, on going broom sales, etc., the Rivanna Lions raise funds to provide support and donations: for Leader Dog School for the blind, Sight and Hearing Test Van used by the Lions of our district, Diabetes research, Virginia Lions Hearing Foundation, Old Dominion Eye Bank, Fluvanna County Food Bank , Reading for the Blind and Dyslexic, Lake Monticello Fire and Rescue and other worthy causes as voted by the membership. No money received from the public goes toward any of the administrative or social costs of the club. We Provide....... Eye Examinations, Eye Glasses/Hearing Aids for the needy in Fluvanna County. Sight and hearing testing of children and adults thru use of our District’s specially equipped Sight and Hearing Mobile Van. Annual college scholarship for Fluvanna County High School graduates. Participate in the county Adopt-a-Family program. Roadside clean-up of Route 15, four times a year. Recycling used eyeglasses for distribution in third world countries. |
