Resignations/Open Positions
The BOD has received and accepted letters of
resignation from the following members in good standing (dues paid, etc.): Tom
Ellis, Evlyn and Jack Murphy, John and Julie Pomeroy. We appreciate their participation and thank
them for their service to Lionism.
Special thanks to those members who have
stepped up to ensure continuity by taking on jobs. Lion Ken: brooms and LOV (Lions of Virginia)
raffle; Lion Ron: White Cane Day and the ordering of club shirts, etc.; Lion Dot:
ordering meals each meeting. Thank you
all for volunteering!
Still open is Ass't Treasurer to help
Lion Chris and Lion Tamer to see our equipment is in place at
each meeting. These jobs require minimum time and are an excellent way to
become involved. Additionally, our Holiday Outreach committee
needs Chair/members. November and
December are the months this committee is concerned with - lots of time to get
ideas in place.
The Rivanna Lions have worked hard and earned a
great reputation in Fluvanna and District 24-C. It's all due to active
participation by members. Your help is needed, Please see Lion Dave to
volunteer. Thank you!
Lion Dot should be called by the Sunday
prior to each meeting if you are unable to attend the upcoming Wednesday
meeting. She's obligated to advise the
dining room on that Monday exactly how many meals are needed and the
club is then responsible for the total cost.
Failure to call will result in a bill being sent to you for the missed
dinner.
Happily, Lion Guy has volunteered to take over
the job of Membership Chair. We appreciate his expertise in this area and look
forward to working with him to increase our numbers. Membership in a Lion's
club is by invitation only and we consistently look for and eagerly welcome
individuals prepared to follow the Lions' motto, "We Serve". . See Lion Guy about inviting such individuals
to a meeting and please remember to let Lion Dot know about any guests.
Selfishly, we hope it takes a really long time
for Lion Wayne to sell his home and move.
However, it's up for sale now and a buyer could appear at any time. Lion Wayne, a Charter member and Melvin Jones
Fellow, has done an outstanding job as Publicity Chair and will
be extremely difficult to replace. Feel
free to talk with him to learn exactly what he does and how you can be of help
- now and later. Our club always needs
new talent and if you don't let us know your interests in serving we remain
ignorant. This is your
club - get involved!
Road Signs
Lion President Dave brought the two-part sign (Lions
Int'l logo and place time/location of meetings). There is not yet a decision on
where these signs will be placed.
Charter Night
This is a celebration of receiving our Charter
as the Rivanna Lions in March of 1998. We honor this important event each year
and, for 2008, the date is March 26, our 10th anniversary. As
with all celebrations please feel free to invite guests to share in the
festivities. Please remember to notify
Lion Dot. Lion Ken, Chair of this event,
needs help with the nitty gritty and it is hoped you will contact him to
volunteer assistance.
Miscellaneous
Meeting of 2/13: Kudos to Lion Marcia and others who worked
with her to bring Valentine's Day to the Rivanna Lions. The tables were beautifully decorated and
made the evening feel festive. Thanks also to members for joining in the fun by
wearing red!
Post Prom Party in Fluvanna: Lion Marjorie spoke of the need for funds to
help with this project and the club voted to donate $100.
Programs/Speakers: Thanks to Lions Marjorie and Marcia for
scheduling speakers for the next few months.
We do not yet have an official chair/committee for this topic so if you
have someone in mind who would contribute by speaking with our group, please
see Lion Dave to avoid date conflict.
Speakers' subjects may or may not be Lion related.
Road Cleanup: Lion Jim announced March 1 as the date
for the next scheduled cleanup of Rt. 15.
See him to volunteer your help.
Golf Tournament: Tentatively set for 10/25 as a result
of UVA's schedule.
Dutch Auction: On 1/23 Lions Guy and Tom led the auction. $26 was collected and has been deposited in
our Administrative account. Lion Paul
R. won and received a can of coffee candy which he generously shared with
members. We look forward to more of
these "auctions" that are both fun and productive.
The Lions Hartwell,
3 yr. members were surprised with a gift bag of fun items in honor of the
occasion (thank you Lion President's wife).
Directory: Our Directory contains lots of
information. We ask that you please take
time to check that personal data is correct.
Also, look thru the committees listing to determine their accuracy and
let the Chair listed (in bold type) know if there is an error. Feel free to ask
questions. If you find you'd like to be
part of a specific committee or have your name removed from one do the same.
BOD: Nominations will very soon be
needed for vacancies on the Board. If
you have interest in serving next club year, 7-1-08 - 6-30-09, or have
questions, please ask Lion Wayne or any BOD member. Participation is the way to have your voice
heard. Don't know what the BOD does? -
feel free to sit in and listen at any of their monthly meetings.

50/50
Lion Paul R. continued his lucky streak on 1/23
by winning $34 but picked the Ace of Hearts. On 2/13 Lion Fritz won $45. The Ace of Spades will be worth $125 on
2/27. Members are gently reminded that
having 50/50 each meeting is done for fun and it is hoped winners will accept
and enjoy their rewards. Thanks.
Bits & Pieces:
This is an area where news about members and
families is posted. You need not wait
until your great-grandchild is elected to Congress to have something
published. Email me, call, pass a note,
whatever. Just let me know. Thanks.
Guess who's been in Saudi Arabia recently. Lion guy has been visiting with his daughter
who is there working for ITT. It's the
reason both he and Sara missed our Valentine's meeting - he to catch a plane
and she to drive him to the airport!
Another traveler is Lion Fritz who will be
absent at the 2/27 meeting. He and his wife
are vacationing in Hawaii.
