Zone Meeting

Lion Kingsley chaired a meeting of clubs in Region 2 - Zone II of District 24-C (our region and zone) on 11/14.  Present were PDG (Past District Governor) Don Colley and his wife Bert plus attendees from the Scottsville Lions, Charlottesville Host Lions, Charlottesville Lionesses, Thomas Jefferson Lions and seven members of our own club who remained following our regular meeting that night.  It's always interesting to hear what other clubs are doing and learn about events within the District.  Please see Lion Kingsley if you have interest in attending a future zone meeting.

Open Positions

Thanks to the following Lions for stepping up to take responsibility for:  White Cane - Lion Ron; Brooms - Lion Ken - (with storage help from Lion Dave).  Still needed is a member to take charge of the LOV (Lions of Virginia) raffle - a grand prize of $10,000 ($1. per raffle).  This is a once per year activity with the winner chosen each May.  Takes minimum time and costs the club nothing.   Any and all raffles not sold may be returned without penalty.  Lion Tamer - Lion Mike took over this job when Lion Chris became Treasurer.  Unfortunately, he can no longer physically handle the duties which involve seeing that our club banner, flag, etc., are in place for meetings.  Please see Lion President Dave to volunteer your services for the above.  Thanks!

Diabetes Awareness

Lion George Bland reported Lion Marcia, 24-C Chair for this program, took part in the UN Walk for Diabetes in NYC.  Lion Marcia told how moving this event was.  We look forward to seeing her in a special photo taken of all 246 attendees in a circle, representing the 246 million individuals worldwide afflicted with this disease. Well Done Lion Marcia for all your efforts concerning Diabetes!

 Miscellaneous

- Lion George Burnett announced drawing for the special 50/50 raffle will be done at the December 12 meeting.

- Lion Marjorie received unanimous approval from membership to spend $100 for Pop Tarts to be included in the Thanksgiving bags given out at Central Elementary.

- Lion Marcia thanked members and the LM community for contributing linens, etc., to the San Diego Downtown Lions, victims of recent devastating fires.  She noted the Salvation Army at Airport Road in Charlottesville assisted with shipment of donations.  The Rivanna Lions, thanks to Lion Marcia, was the first to help in a club-to-club way!

- Many thanks to those members who brought non-perishable foods to our 11/14 meeting for Thanksgiving distribution by the MACAA food pantry!

50/50

Lion Sara won $51 on 11/14 and Lion Tom won $14 on 11/28.  Neither picked the Ace of Spades and so the dollars keep building.

Bits & Pieces:

This is an area where news about members and families is posted.  You need not wait until your great-grandchild is elected to Congress to have something published.  Email me, call, pass a note, whatever.  Just let me know.  Thanks.

Congratulations Lion Wayne for 18 years of service to Lionism!
