New College Credit Recommendations for the CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL SECRETARY (CPS) and CERTIFIED ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONAL (CAP) EXAMINATIONS

Since 1976, the American Council on Education (ACE), based in Washington DC, has reviewed the CPS examination for possible college credit; the CAP exam has been reviewed by ACE since 2003.

ACE recently provided the following college credit recommendations, based on the 2004 CPS and CAP examination blueprints. Colleges and universities can find the complete recommendation in the ACE Guide to Educational Credit by Examination.

Office Systems & Technology

• 3 Lower Division Associate/Baccalaureate Degree— Computer Concepts

• 3 Lower Division Associate/Baccalaureate Degree— Information Systems

Office Administration

• 3 Lower Division Associate/Baccalaureate Degree— Records Management

• 3 Lower Division Associate/Baccalaureate Degree— Business Communications

Management

• 3 Lower or Upper Division— Human Resources Management

• 1 Lower Division— Accounting

• 4 Lower or Upper Division— Management or Supervision

CAP EXAMINATION CREDIT RECOMMENDATION

CPS and CAP holders are encouraged to work with their local college/university in requesting credit for having passed the CPS and/or CAP Examinations.  Set up a meeting with the Registrar's Office or Dean of the department you are interested in at the college or university, and provide them with this ACE recommendation and the Certification Review Guide.  If they have additional questions, have them contact the Certification Department at 816.891.6600 x2248 or x2227 or e-mail certification@iaap-hq.org.
