Subject: Public Relations/Communications Committee

Good afternoon everyone,

It was good to see some of you at NCRA. I hope you all had fun (not just work)!

I would like to reactivate the following committee:

C. PUBLIC RELATIONS/COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE: This committee shall consist of a chairman and two or more members with the past chairman serving as a member at large for two years. This committee shall be responsible for publications of this Association. They shall see that it contains reports of the affairs of the Association, decisions of the Executive Committee, educational items, reports of the committees, biographical sketches of members, results of elections and other items of interest, exclusive of the financial report. They shall carry out projects designed to bring the Association and its activities to the attention of other allied health professions and the public.

I would like to task this committee to start a Facebook page to allow for distribution of information and allow contact between members.

Please let me know if you want to volunteer for this committee or any thoughts you might have.

thanks!

History of VCRA
In 1979 a group of about ten individuals banded together to create an organization (Virginia Tumor Registrars Association) of persons who compiled information about cancer patients. These registrars' task was to gather cancer patient data and submit it to the Virginia Tumor Registry within the Department of Health. Since its inception, the organization has held an educational fall conference rotating around the state. In 1995, the association voted to change its name to the Virginia Cancer Registrars Association.

Currently, our dues are $25 and we offer all new CTR's a free one year membership. We also have a drawing for one free membership to VCRA at the end of each year and included in our budget is a $1,000 honarium for the President to attend the NCRA conference. We are always striving to improve VCRA and the world of cancer registrars in Virginia, for it is our professional organization. It is ours to build and to keep vital.
