If you send a package to a servicemember after March 3, 2008, you can take advantage of the new flat-rate box from the Postal Service that is 50 percent larger and delivered for $10.95 to any APO/FPO address, which is $2 less than for domestic destinations.
The new priority mail large flat-rate box (12" x 12" x 5-1/2" or 800 cubic inches) will be available in post offices nationwide beginning March 3, 2008, but customers can begin ordering them Feb. 20, 2008 at the United States Postal Service website at usps.com/supplies or by calling 800-610-8734.
These boxes are free!

FREE MAILING SUPPLIES FOR FAMILIES OF DEPLOYED TROOPS!

When you send a care package to a deployed Service Member, do you find yourself searching for empty boxes in the aisles of the commissary?
The United States Postal Service, recognizing that most care packages are sent overseas using priority mail, has created a "Mili-kit".
Each kit contains boxes, address labels, and custom forms. You can order these free boxes by calling 1-800-610-8734 and ask for a CAREKIT.
You'll still have to fill the box with love and goodies, and you'll still have to pay for and affix postage, but it will save you some space in your shopping cart!
More information on packing, addressing and shipping items can be found at www.usps.com/supportingourtroops.

What is a Family Readiness Group and what can it do for me?

An FRG is comprised of family members that belong to sailors stationed at the command.

It serves as a way to promote healthy relationships to get through the changing and challenging times a deployment brings.

It is a resource that can be pooled from for military and civilian services.

It hosts meetings for guest speakers to talk about a variety of military family topics.

The FRG fundraises to collect funds to provide events while the command is deployed for its children and families.

The FRG works on activities to send to its sailors to promote morale while deployed.

Most importantly, it stands to unite those who are left behind to prepare for a Half-way Celebration
and to give our sailors the Homecoming that they deserve.
