The Virginia State Association of Parliamentarians is a constituent of the National Association of Parliamentarians.

We number over 200 members, most of whom belong to local units or a club; the remainder are Members-at-Large. All members of NAP must pass a qualifying examination. Further study and examination qualify certification as Registered Parliamentarian and Professional Registered Parliamentarian. Many of our members have achieved these advanced certifications.

A Board of Directors and Executive Committee, both headed by elected officers, govern our operations. Several committees assist the Board of Directors.

Our annual convention is usually held in the last week of April, Parliamentary Law Month. The convention venue rotates geographically.

President, Laura N. Porter, RP, has chosen as a theme for the 2005-2007 biennium – "Continuing the Pursuit of Parliamentary Excellence." The challenge – to strengthen our local units by bringing in new members, involving our youth in NAP, and developing new leaders by the study of Parliamentary Law.

Vision Statement:

By promoting the study, teaching, and correct use of parliamentary procedure, the Virginia State Association of Parliamentarians will extend public understanding of and appreciation for the role of parliamentary procedure as an indispensible guardian of the democratic decision-making process.
