General Membership Meeting

Alderwood Elementary School PTA

January 18, 2005

Call to Order:

President Rudy Cortez called the general membership meeting of Alderwood Elementary School PTA to order in the school cafeteria at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2005. All members had been sent a proper notice of the meeting and a quorum was present. A sign-in sheet is attached to these minutes.

Approval of Minutes:

The minutes of the general membership meeting held on November 16, 2004 were approved as written.

Reports:

Treasurer’s Report: Jennifer Hawes gave the treasurer’s report for the months of November and December 2004.

Book Fair: Diane Bateman reported that the Fall Book Fair earned $1082.92 in books for the library and Books & Breakfast.

Rockwall: The PTA received a card from the students of Alderwood thanking us for the Rockwall. The card was presented to Kim Weatherill for all her hard work in putting it all together.

Pacific Science Center: Rudy Cortez reported both students and teacher alike met the Pacific Science Center assembly with much enthusiasm.

FAMily fun night: It was reported that the price of Family Fun Night has gone up in price to $150.00. We need to decide if it is worth doing next year since so few Alderwood families attend. It was suggested that maybe we could share costs with another school.

ASSEMBLY: It was reported that the Magic Lantern Show was very good.

PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT: Kim Weatherill will order the Hand Over Hand bars and hopefully we can have them installed in the spring.

FOOD BANK COLLECTION: Jennifer Hawes reported that she would start a food drive in February. Look for more information in the Friday Folders.

TALENT SHOW: Tracy Olney reported that she would chair the Talent Show. The date for the show will be March. She is hoping to use risers for the audience so she will have more space for acts.

BOOKS & BREAKFAST: Dianne Bateman reported that the first Books and Breakfast would be February 4.

ALDERWOOD EXPANSION: Nick Payne reported that Alderwood would be expanding with new classrooms and restrooms. Also they will be expanding the gym and cafeteria. No date has been announced when this would be happening.

FABULOUS FRIDAY: Cheyla Petravich is asking for help to keep Fabulous Friday alive. It is huge undertaking for just two people to chair. She has decided to break it down into several positions; such as Classroom, Donation, Volunteer, Community Contact, Welcoming, Barbecue, and Teacher Liaison Coordinators. She would be the Lead Person. She will be sending more information home in the Friday Folders.

ENRICHMENT TEAM: Cheyla Petravich reported that the Enrichment Team is thinking about making candles for a fundraiser to help Tsunami victims.

Announcements:

Kathie Hegarty told us that the Family Information Center helped 125 children for the holidays.
