NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS NEXT APP TASK FORCE MEETING: Thursday, June 10 at Lowell
The Lowell Elementary principal will be
Julie Breidenbach. Julie has been a principal for 3
years at View Ridge and has 20 years of experience in education.
She taught elementary school for 9 years and spent 7
years teaching middle school math. She has a Special Education
endorsement and experience with Gifted Education. View
Ridge has a Spectrum program, so she has experience as an
administrator in a school with a gifted program. Julie is excited
about coming to Lowell, and sees this as a great opportunity.
The EPGY program from Stanford University offers accredited
course-work at all grade levels via
a CDROM-based distance learning program. The materials are
also available for independent or home-study programs.
The CTY at Johns Hopkins University operates a national talent search
to find students eligible for a wide range of summer programs and
distance learning options.
Matteo Ricci College at Seattle University is the 3-year university
phase of an program that integrates high school and university level studies
into 6 years.
ATDP offers challenging summer classes for highly motivated students who
have completed grades K-6 (Elementary Division) and 7-11 (Secondary Division).
The Robinson Center at the University of Washington administers
a program through which students 14 and under attend one year of
"Transition School" followed by admission into an
"Early Entrance Program" at the UW. The Center was written up in
University Week
The NAASE is an early entrance program at the University of Iowa.
NAASW accepts students who have completed course work equivalent to the junior
year in high school.
Simon's Rock College of Bard is a college of the liberal arts and sciences
designed expressly for students of high school age.
Most students enter Simon's Rock after completing 10th or 11th grade,
and follow programs leading to the Associate in Arts or Bachelor of Arts
degrees in liberal arts.
Eisenhower National Clearinghouse for Mathematics and Science Education.
A very large collection of curriculum resources for K-12
teachers, sponsored by the US Dept of Education. Includes
many links to on-line curricula and distance learning sites.
Hosted by the University of Cambridge; contains puzzle pages,
chat rooms for kids working on maths games, puzzles, LOGO
programming, and much other stuff.
On-line recordings from the six wonderful "Singing Science"
LPs produced in the late 1950s / early 1960s by Hy Zaret and Lou Singer.
