Welcome to the APP Task Force website.

Excerpted from APP Parent Newsletter:

Welcome to the 2000-01 "millennial" school year! We wish your child a wonderful year of new discoveries and rewarding experiences.

For APP parents, there are a variety of ways to "plug in" to the program. One obvious way is to volunteer in your child's school and classrooms. Ask teachers how you can help -- from making phone calls, to driving on field trips, to offering enrichment experiences.

APP also has two parent organizations which always welcome new volunteers:

APP TASK FORCE The Task Force was commissioned by former Supt. William Kendrick in 1989 to study and make recommendations on policies relating to the program. It is made up of parents, teachers, District staff and principals.

Task Force meets monthly, usually on the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Lowell Multipurpose Room. This year's first meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21 (with other First Semester meetings on Oct. 19, Nov. 16, Dec. 14, and Jan. 18). Jane Fellner is Task Force Chair. For more information please call 329-6588.

APP PARENT STEERING COMMITTEE This is a "working group" which provides program support, sponsors general parent meetings, publishes the APP Newsletter 4-5 times during the year and assists with new family orientation (tours and picnic).

Its meetings, usually on the first Saturday of the month, provide an information forum for discussion of issues affecting APP. This month's meeting is at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at 2037 Fairview Ave. E. #F. (Other First Semester dates are Oct. 7, Nov. 4, Dec. 2 and Jan. 6.) Jim Corcoran and Courtney Jelaco co-chair the Steering Committee. For more information, please call Jim at 365-4770 or Courtney at 726-1906.

CONTINUING ISSUES FOR APP  The combination of talented and dedicated teachers and administrators along with interested and enthusiastic parents helps explain the ongoing vitality of the Accelerated Progress Program. APP teachers, parents and administrators are always working to make this outstanding program even better. Some continuing issues for APP this year are curriculum, communication and cooperation of parents, teachers and administrators within and among schools. All parents are invited to become involved in this ongoing effort.

APP INFORMATION HERE
This is a two-column section for any information you want to put in.

This website comes with this home page plus 10 extra pages. The 10 extra pages show in a list in the upper left of the site once they are created.

The extra pages would be a good place to post a copy of the APP Parent Newsletter, the School Calendar, a list of School Board Meetings, the APP Homework Policy, etc. A reader would click on the title of the item and go to a separate page where it would display. I've included an example of an extra page in the upper left ("APP HOMEWORK POLICY").

The graphics you see here (the eagle and the key) can both be changed to anything you want. If you had an APP logo it would be good to replace the eagle with that. The font and the background color of the page can also be changed very easily.

  APP INFORMATION HERE
You can put graphics anywhere you want on the site, with captions: Here is an example:

This is an eagle.

In the left column there's a Links Section where you can list website links for sites you want your readers to be able to access from this page. I put in a few sample links, including the Spectrum/APP forum.

You can also install download commands anywhere you want on your page. So if you wanted to distribute a document to your readers, such as the Chronology of APP, for instance, you could offer the ability to download that document right here:

Please download: Chronology of the Accelerated Progress Program (APP).

Or you can put pop up links for documents anywhere on the site so readers can go directly to a certain document. For instance you might want to tell your readers: "To learn about the history of APP, see the Chronology of the Accelerated Progress Program (APP)."

MEMBERSHIP MANAGEMENT TOOLS
The site also comes with a membership list feature and email. You can keep the entire membership of APP in a database at the site and then email everyone at once or individually. In the left column you'll see part of the membership displayed. Readers can click on any underlined name and send an email to that person directly. You don't have to display the membership on the home page, however.

At the very bottom of the page there is a contact box. Readers can email you (or whoever you pick to maintain the site) to ask questions and add themselves to your email list.

To create this site and maintain it, all you have to be able to do is type and learn a couple of really simple code commands to make paragraph breaks and bold or italicize words. Anyone can keep this site up. You will not need a special "webmaster."

Click on my name in the left column to email me if you would like to talk more about this or if you want me to explain it to anyone else. You can have anyone you want to look at this go to: www.orgsites.com/wa/apptaskforce. That is the site address for this sample site. I gave you the user id and password in the email I sent you.
