Movie Reviews Movie Review #1 "A Series of Unfortunate Events" This movie, based on the books "The Bad Beginning," "The Reptile Room," And "The Wide Window" was an unusual holiday film. It starred Liam Aiken as the attractive Klaus Baudelaire, Emily Browing as inventive Violet Baudelaire, and the adorable Hoffman twins as Sunny Baudelaire. The movie begins with a silly scene from "The Littlest Elf," but the movie washes the gray, and reappears in the midst of a gloomy graveyard. Narrator Lemony Snicket, (voiceover Jude Law) informs us that it would be best to go see a pleasant movie such as The Littlest Elf. That only serves to deepen the mood. He introduces the Baudelaire siblings on Briny Beach, where Mr. Poe, the balmy banker, informs them that their parents have perished in a fire that has destroyed their entire home. Considering the news, I believe that they take it in stride, as Violet doesn't even cry, and Klaus keeps a strait face. Thus, they are whisked away to their "Beloved Count Olaf," (Jim Carrey) a relative whom they have never met. While there, he forces them to do disgusting chores. After he attempts to kill them they go to live with Uncle Monty Montgomery, but when he too is done away with, they stay with their Aunt Josephine, all the while unraveling the mystery of their parents deaths. A brilliant movie! Seventeen hundred stars! |
