ORGANIZATIONS AND EVENTS TO BENEFIT SOCIAL HOMES IN BULGARIA

Absolute Return for Kids (ARK)
ARK has worked in partnership with the Bulgarian Government since 2006 to plan and support reform of long-term institutional care in the Municipality of Stara Zagora (home to the highest number of institutionalised children in the country). This was the first time the Government had ever explicitly committed to the replacement of large-scale, long-term institutional care with family and community based services and marked a huge breakthrough for both ARK and the future of child-care in Bulgaria
http://www.arkonline.org/?p=60

Bulgarian Child, Inc.
Helping Bulgarian orphans. To impact the lives of institutionalized and impoverished children in Bulgaria by compassionately meeting their basic needs.
http://www.bulgarianchild.org/

Bulgarian Mother's Movement
We are Bulgarian mothers who are proving the immense strength of mother's love and care. We met via Internet at a virtual forum at dir.bg called Mothers and Mothers-to-be. We realised there was an opportunity for us to join our efforts in order to help the young orphans and children without parental care who live in institutions.

Bulgarian Orphanage Appeal
In every single large town in Bulgaria there is an Orphanage coping with between 50 and 120 children at any given time. These children range in age from a few days old to the age of 18. Outside help is very limited, and providing even sufficient food or head is an burdensome and almost impossible task. In the main, the staffs try the best that they can with the limited resources available to them. Over the last few years we have been trying to assist their efforts. In particular, we have been supporting 2 orphanages in Bulgaria – 1 in the city of Yambol and the other in the town of Elhovo, providing what we call “the basic necessities”.

CVS-BG
CVS-BG is a joint effort of three non-governmental organizations, ECO-CLUB 2000, Green Balkans Sofia, and Pro International Bulgaria who have agreed to work together organizing international volunteer projects.

The Campaign for BULGARIA'S ABANDONED CHILDREN
This organization aims to challenge the standards of social care in Bulgaria and promote the practice of community based care for all disabled children and adults. They began their campaign following the broadcasting of Kate Blewett’s documentary 'Bulgaria's Abandoned Children' about the condition of 75 disabled children in the Mogilino Institute. Members of the public, outraged at the children’s suffering, have begun this campaign to challenge this neglect and rebuild the childrens lives.

The mission of Face to Face Bulgaria is to fight against, prevent and reduce the cases of child and forced prostitution in Bulgaria and outside its borders via developing numerous projects and programs. Face to Face Bulgaria understands the importance of educating and informing under-aged girls who are the main target group of the pimps. We believe no girl deserves such experience to enter the world of grown-ups.

Future For Bulgaria Fund / AIG Bulgaria
Every year about 400 children deprived from parental care in Bulgaria finish their secondary education and have to leave their orphanages. Many more are the semi-orphans who are marginalized. The state subsidy is not enough, but many of them are clever and talented. Aiming to help those young people, AIG Bulgaria and Future for Bulgaria Foundation established a donation fund “Better Start in Life”. This fund will grant annual scholarships for students without parents, who are marginalized.

Grandmother Maritsa's Dolls
Vetren is a small village in Bulgaria, more or less one hundred kilometer Sud-Est from Sofia, the capital. It is one of the most poor region of this Country. Vetren's Orphanage gives hospitality to 96 childs from 2 month to 4 years old, attended to loving personal from Government. What the childens don't need is the help or the love of the Director and the workers. The problem is that there is the scarcity of structures, food, medicines, nappy... The toilets, the kitchens, the laundry are rusting and it appears like neglected. The structure is not so old, positioned inside a big park (neglected too).My mother does this dolls, that becomes the Orphanage's symbol

Orphan Art
Throughout the world thousands of children are existing in orphanages. Many of these children live in very remote regions, where everyday they are faced with severe economic disadvantages. Although the orphanages do their best to provide for these children, their resources are limited. The children's daily lives are often without beauty, art, and hope. Often the children have no idea that they hold within themselves the tools to express themselves and mold their views of their very existence. A sense of hopeless and helplessness often pervades their daily lives, and extinguishes the possibility of a brighter future. Orphan Art, Inc. seeks to remedy this situation by providing children with supplies to address their daily needs, coupled with the tools and knowledge to tap into their creativity.
