Including Neighboring Countries
About Us.
We are a non-profit, volunteer-run support organization for adoptive families with children from Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Republics. Washington State FRUA INC, is a regional chapter of National FRUA INC. Our families have found that there is no roadmap to guide parents of adopted children from these countries, so we've turned to the real experts - other families.
FRUA INC stands for Families for Russian and Ukranian Adoption Including Neighboring Countries. Although the majority of our families have adopted from (or are waiting to adopt from) regions in Russia... all Eastern European and Ex-Soviet countries share equal representation in our group. We have had families who have adopted from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Romania, Russia and Ukraine (as well as China, India, Guatemala, and Thailand).
Some of our children were adopted as infants, some as pre-schoolers, some as school-aged kids, and even some as teens. Our childrens' ethnic heritages include Slavic, Romani (Gypsy), Asian, Turkic, and a variety of native cultures. Our children have a variety of abilities, disabilities, and issues.
Adoption is a never-ending journey... & our chapter has families in the "research", "waiting to travel", "just home", and "been home a long time" stages of the journey... just waiting to connect with YOU!
We can assist you in preparing for your adoption experience, help after you return home and offer continued support in the future.

Yahoo E-group
The most important source
of information, support, & notification of
upcoming activities is our Yahoo e-mail group.
We encourage members (& prospective
members) to go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FRUA-Washington
& join this
group.
It is an active group, without too large a number of postings. If you hate email,
you can sign up for a daily digest (all messages for the day in one e-mail) or
"no e-mail" & read the messages on the Yahoo site board at your convenience.
The topics range from upcoming FRUA, INC activities to advice between members
on various adoption topics.
Volunteer!
FRUA, INC Washington State is guided by an ALL-VOLUNTEER Board of Directors. These volunteers are nominated and elected by the board.
some of YOUR volunteers, won't you join us?
You’ve heard the bit before… we need you to volunteer… yadda, yadda… blah, blah, blah! You are probably sick to death of hearing that FRUA, INC is run ENTIRELY by volunteers who give back a bit of their hard-earned time & energy to support our membership.
Did you have fun at the Winterfest / Spring Festival?
Do you enjoy the newsletter?
Use the information in the Directory?
Learn a lot at the Conference?
How many friends did you meet at the picnic?
Do you think the Heritage Camp is a valuable and wonderful opportunity?
Yep… volunteers put together all of those things!
I KNOW you don’t want to hear
how little time it takes to be one of these volunteers…
or that you don’t have to have any special skills…
or how much fun we have sharing ideas & working together…
or how cool it is to make some really supportive friends among the other volunteers for yourselves & your children.
…but …we really DO need you, you know!
First we need volunteers to help plan and coordinate all parts of the upcoming HERITAGE CAMP . We have big plans, and many hands will make short work. We need Coordinators and Committee Members to FIND AND TEACH CULTURAL GAMES, GET ALL THOSE SUPPLIES, and COODINATE AND SUPERVISE THE VOLUNTEERS. We also need to hire a COOK. All volunterrs please contact debbie@ericksonconnection.com
Then it would be great to to re-start the PRESCHOOL PLAYGROUPS . We have had very successful and meaningful playgroups for the younger children as the interest of our families dictates. In the past this has been a very significant opportunity for children to form long-term relationships with peers from similar backgrounds. It also has been a unique opportunity for parents to form friendships with others who understand some of the joys, as well as the trials and tribulations of being an adoptive parent of children from Ex-Soviet countries. The wealth of support, information, friendship and networking is awesome.
Right now our hang-up is finding dedicated adults to plan and lead this group. This could be an individual, or a group of individuals. If you have even the slightest interest in getting regular Playgroups off the ground, please contact sharonkiddle@hotmail.com
The LENDING LIBRARY needs a Coodinator too. Anyone with an interest in helping to organize our books and CDs for lending to our membership, publicizing the availability of resources and borrowing proceedure, handling the records of who borrows what, and seeking out and procuring new resources would be very welcome. For more information email sharonkiddle@hotmail.com
We are also looking for BOARD MEMBERS-AT-LARGE. Anyone with an interest in helping to direct our chapter, shape our activities, and plan our events is welcome. For more information email sharonkiddle@hotmail.com
The commitment for any of these positions requires only a few ideas, a little energy, & a few hours every month.
One final thought… each position is flexible. You can make it what you want. It is OUR group, led by OUR families, with OUR goals & ideas. If you are reading this, you are a part of it already.
