GAIN the Highland News
Happy Neighbor Appreciation Day February 11th, 2006 was Seattle's twelfth annual Neighbor Appreciation Day. It is a special day to celebrate the goodness in those around us and reach out and strengthen our bonds to each other. We are very appreciative of the Seattle Police Department's Anti Crime Team who visited the neighborhood January 23rd and made an arrest on Palatine avenue and also North Precinct Officers Nick Bound, Carl Zielach and Randy Ward who were recently commended for their work that lead to the arrest of an extremely dangerous criminal this past November.

The Citizens Budget Conference was well attended by North Seattle residents who posed questions to SPD Chief of Operations Clark Kimerer, Council members Conlin, Della, Licata and Rasmussen regarding Public Safety and staffing levels at the North Precinct. The Seattle PI ran a story (attachment) about our neighborhood titled: 'Urban village' at Bitter Lake lacks amenity: Sidewalks

The 'Urban village' will add another *1000* residents to our neighborhood mostly along Linden Avenue with one mixed use development (*400* resident * 540* parking spaces) replacing the trailer park. *CHAMPS D'AURORA *The Northwest Team working on the Open Space 2100 project recently received an award for their creativity and vision in planning for our neighborhood's Open Spaces on a 100 year timeline

GAIN the Highland News 1/25/06 Hello Neighbors! Thanks once again to the Community Police Team, SDOT, Broadview Community Council, Carkeek Area Neighbors and Luther Memorial Church for making our second Public Safety meeting a success. Coffee and doughnuts were made possible by Top Pot doughnut factory and Tully's Coffee. We are seeing amazing support from the Mayor's Office on our Anti Crime and Pedestrian Safety initiatives and also increased presence of Officers patrolling the neighborhood. The Community Police Team reminds us to call 911 and ask for the non emergency number in instances of public drunkenness and ongoing vandalism. Neighbors mentioned a vehicle stolen during daylight hours on 2nd Ave NW so again here is the information for 'The Club' : The Seattle Neighborhood Group has two sizes of vehicle anti-theft devices available at reduced cost for Seattle Residents. Offer limited to a maximum of two (2) devices per address. see order form; http://www.sngi.org/pdfs/cluborder.pdf Many neighbors and business owners are asking How can I get Involved?

We hope you enjoy GAin the Highland news and wish to join
