Welcome Words

The MOPS International theme for 2009-2010 is "Together on Planet Mom".
Becoming a mom affects your relationships with everyone - your spouse, your parents, your friends, and even God.
Becoming a mom does refine and change us forever. And it changes all of our relationships as well.
Becoming a mom is one of the most breathtaking gifts we've all been given, and the little person at your feet, or in your arms, needs you to pay attention to your life and see it with clarity and hope and vision.

Becoming a Mom Changes You!
Can you look into a mirror and see YOU anymore? As much as your identity changed when you became a mom, as much as you've given and will continue to give of yourself in this role, you haven't lost the individual God made you to be.
"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you." Psalm 32:8

Becoming a Mom Changes Your Marriage
Parenthood is not the end of your intimate relationship with your husband; it's just another stepping stone. The key to a successful marriage is to accept that it is an evolving, living relationship, bound to change, not just now but again next year and in ten years. Keep the flame burning, don't put it on the backburner!
"So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband." Ephesians 5:33

Becoming a Mom Changes Your Relationship With Your Family of Origin
We need to lay a good foundation for our children. Part of that effort is facing what our family of origin gave us ... or didn't. We must recognize what was good and bad so we can break any unhealthy habits. Remember, roots go deep.
"Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble." 1 Peter 3:8

Becoming a Mom Changes Friendships
To create lasting, deep friendships, time, effort, shared priorities, grace and devotion are needed. Finding unique women outside of your normal girlfriend pool will push you to grow - it will challenge you, teach you, encourage you, broaden you and your world. They will "feed" different aspects of your personality and life.
"A friend loves at all times..." Proverbs 17:17

Becoming a Mom Changes Your Relationship With The World
Becoming a mom connects you to mothers throughout your immediate community and all around the world. We all strive to create an environment in which our children will thrive. You can take one step closer to making the world a better place for you and your children.
"The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therin, for He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers." Psalm 24:1

Becoming a Mom Changes Your Relationship With God
God has given us children, not only to care for and nurture, but also to model His love for us. And once we recognize it, our relationship with Him is forever changed and enhanced. We cannot out-experience God. We cannot know Him fully, this side of Heaven. But we can get an awful lot closer if we spend time with Him every day.
"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed." Mark 1:35
