|Making a Difference in Kitsap County "GFWC Kitsap Peninsula is a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC). GFWC is an international women’s organization dedicated to community service by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. Together We are Living the Volunteer Spirit. The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) is proudly represented in thousands of communities by dedicated volunteers working to better the lives of their neighbors, making towns safer and more beautiful and extending the hand of support and friendship to individuals near and far. We are mothers and daughters, business and community leaders, and women of diverse interests, talents, and backgrounds – all united by a dedication to community service through volunteer service. Our purpose is to serve our community, educate our members and promote fellowship. Members select projects from the following areas: The Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, International Outreach, and Public Issues. The Signature project of GFWC is Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention. Members range in age and include working moms, stay at home moms, single women and retirees. |
GFWC Kitsap Peninsula meets the 3rd Thursday each month, September through June.Please see the column on the left as we sometimes change our meeting location.
We are a part of GFWC Peninsula District which holds a Spring & Fall Conference each year. There are 8 clubs in the district which includes clubs in Kitsap, Pierce, and Thurston counties.

Nutcracker Ballet Dessert Sales Members sold cheesecake, brownies, and cookies at the Nutcracker Ballet performed by Peninsula Dance Theatre, in December at Bremerton High School. Proceeds go to community projects and Peninsula Dance Theatre.
"Smooth Move"tubs for YWCA A.L.I.V.E. Shelter." Members have put together and donated Smooth Move Tubs. Tubs are given to women when they move out of the shelter. Items needed for the tubs are: bath towels and wash cloths, dishes, frying pan, cleaning products, $50 grocery card, dish towel, pot holder, drinking glasses, small pot, can opener, paper towels, silverware, utensils and toilet paper. You can help by bringing items to one of our meetings.
Members donated cookies to local Firemen and Policemen to thank them for their service. The cookies were presented for Valentine's Day.
Members are collecting food for the various food banks in the county.
Members work the first Saturday each month to maintain and restore the Chico Salmon Park.
Members painted the restrooms and decorated bulletin boards at St. Vincent DePaul food bank.
Club members handed out "WHALE" packets at Kids Day Safety Fair at Kitsap County Fair Grounds.
We are looking for girls 13-18 that are interesting in doing community service to form a "Juniorette" Club. Members would work with our club on projects and also be able to do projects of their own. Contact us if you are interested.

Nancy Burdick is 2011 GFWC-WS Jennie June Award Winner On September 18th, at GFWC-Washington State Fall Board in Yakima President Kathie Jorgensen announced the 2011 Jennie June winner as Nancy Burdick. The General Federation of Women’s Club Jennie June Award is named for the GFWC founder and honors a clubwoman for outstanding commitment to club, community and family. GFWC, one of the oldest and largest women’s volunteer service organization, was founded in 1890 by Jane Cunningham Croly who as a journalist for the New York Sunday Times used the pen name Jennie June. Nancy has been an active GFWC club member for 36 years and is now serving as the GFWC-WS First Vice-President. Her volunteer commitment to our community over the years extends beyond GFWC club activities. Nancy has volunteered for other organizations in our community including Boy Scouts, her local school Parent Teacher Association, Peninsula Dance Theatre, and also volunteers in her grandson’s school classroom. Her unlimited commitment to family includes weekly family dinners for her husband, two sons and their families and an annual extended family reunion at her home.
Scholarships GFWC Kitsap is looking for young women wishing to apply for scholarship. Scholarships are available to graduating senior girls or girls currently enrolled in undergraduate courses and plan to attend a college or university in Washington State. Deadline for application is January 15th.
Members made book bags for kindergarteners at Esquire Hills.
