The very first step is to chose a topic. First, start with what you'd like to work on. This means something interesting, not just something you think will be easy. Think general first, then get more and more specific. For example:

Presentation
becomes
Steps
becomes
Step 1: Topics
becomes
How to come up with a topic

You see, it goes from presentation, with all of its various parts from brainstorming to finalizing, to steps, including steps 1 through 8, to Step 1: Topics, with only how to come up with one, how to narrow it down, and what to do with it. From there it narrows it down to just how to come up with the topic. And so, a perfect topic.

You should also notify your parents about the whole project, and tell them what you need to do and what you might need from them to complete the project.Tell them everything that you have to do, and everything that your group has done on a dialy basis. It is good to talk to your parents so that they know what is going on, and if they might expect a call from the teacher, or when a big thing is due. Don't hide anything, and don't be shy about your task. Once parents hear this, they may even recommend a recource for information on your project.
