WELCOME TO THE KIRKLAND WOMAN'S CLUB

. . . . . . . a non-profit charitable organization bringing together women from Kirkland and surrounding areas to promote friendliness and welfare locally, regionally, and internationally, with monthly luncheon meetings, coffee socials, an annual High Tea and Musical Revue, and charitable projects such as elder advocacy, Hopelink, cancer research, Operation Smile, and other local and international causes.

The Kirkland Woman's Club (KWC) is part of the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC), an international organization founded in 1890 for the betterment of society, through a variety of community improvement projects.

KWC is located across from City Hall in the historic original Kirkland Library and Health Clinic. It is listed on the State of Washington Historical Register and the National Register of Historic Places.

In addition to providing a gracious setting for our various Club activities, the facility is available to rent for such functions as wedding receptions, memorial services, or recurring business meetings. It accommodates up to 99 guests, and features a concert-sized Steinway grand piano, perfect for music recitals or receptions.

GET INVOLVED!

KWC, in accord with the General Federation of Women's Clubs, divides its areas of service into six categories:

  • ARTS IN THE COMMUNITY
  • CONSERVATION
  • EDUCATION
  • HOME LIFE
  • INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS
  • PUBLIC AFFAIRS

You may choose the category that best suits your talents and interests. Our Arts Committee, for example, produces a High Tea and Musical Revue each spring to raise funds for music scholarships. Next year's program will be "The King and I." Another committee is providing teddy bears for officers to give children in distress. We make layettes for Eastside Public Health Hospital, have our own Reading Circle (Oprah, move over!), organize youth string quartets to entertain at elder care facilities, and support domestic violence awareness both locally and on an international level. We build leadership in the home, school, and community, and train volunteers to make a positive impact.

  •   PHILANTHROPIES

KWC's special local charitable traditions include:

  • Hopelink
  • YWCA Family Village Christmas Family
  • Lake Washington School District Scholarships
  • Music Scholarships
  • Layettes for Eastside Public Health
  • Kirkland Clothing Bank
  • Eastside Domestic Violence

We also support cancer research, Operation Smile, the Federated Forest State Park, UN events, and various other charities as the need arises.

Under the motto "Unity in Diversity", GFWC has built an outstanding record of accomplishment. Unlike single-issue organizations, GFWC's structure allows clubs to address the emerging needs of individual communities and the nation and to respond quickly to calls for help. Local clubs have the ability to tap into the expertise available at national, state and district levels as well as the freedom to shape programs to suit particular community needs.
