![]() Thank you for visiting Lawton Library website. Lawton Elementary School located in Seattle, Washington, has approximately 300 students in grades K-5. This page was developed to share with parents, community members, and other students what our library program has to offer. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Lawton Library is open all day, every school day, and we encourage all students and parents, too, to drop in at any time to browse the collection and check out library materials.
Every classroom has one regularly scheduled library period each week when students will have an opportunity to check out books and work on library and information skills projects, but the library is also open before and after school for anyone who wants a place for quiet activity or reading.
Volunteer opportunities abound for anyone with a few minutes or more to spare. Lawton Library is a busy place and many hands make light the work. If you enjoy being around kids and books, this is the place for you! Some of the ongoing tasks include book check in and shelving. With three or more classes checking out each day, books pile up quickly. We welcome your assistance, so please come on in. For those of you who cannot provide the "gift of time", but wish to contribute in some way, Lawton Library has a book donation program known as "Birthday Book Bonanza". Students voluntarily participate in this program by giving to the library a book of their own choice in recognition of their birthdays. In the past, Lawton PTA has made available a number of books from which parents can make a purchase or students and parents can purchase from their favorite bookstore. Each gift is labeled with a bookplate noting the name and birthdate of the donor and then becomes a permanent addition to the library collection. A book exchange program which invites students to bring in their used paperback books to trade for others which they would enjoy reading will continue. These traded books can then be kept by the student or traded again for different titles.
