CHECKOUT POLICIES

Students may check out books for a one week period. They can be renewed twice for one week each time. Books can be placed on hold if currently checked out by others.

There are no fines for overdue books, but there is a 2 book limit per student so they must refrain from further checkouts until the books are returned. They may be returned anytime to the book drop.

2005 CHILDREN'S BOOK AWARDS

Caldecott Award: The 2005 Caldecott Award Winner is KITTEN'S FIRST FULL MOON by Kevin Henkes. In this story, a kitten mistakes the moon for a bowl of milk. Kitten's frustration and eventual triumph are emotions familiar to young children. Ages 5-7

Newbery Award: In KIRA KIRA by Cynthia Kadohata, the complex relationship between two sisters is explored. Katie's oldest sister, Lynn, whom she worships taught her the words "Kira Kira" which means glittering in Japanese. Prejudice, personal challenge and family tragedy are part of this story set in the southern US in the 50's and 60's.

"BOOK-IT" PROGRAM

82 students have returned their Book-It reading charts for the past five months! That's fabulous! March is the last month for the program and those students who have completed all six months will be invited to a "Celebrate Reading Pizza Luncheon". Have your student check the bulletin board outside the library and turn in any missing forms!

Please come by the library and see our COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD COLLECTION featuring over 50 countries. These books are a valuable tool for our students as they pursue research related to the various cultures they are studying.
