From the General Manager:
As we move into Fall and the mornings become brisk, be certain to call ahead if you have a morning tee time. Frost delays are common this time of the year. We receive word from the grounds crew by 6:30 each morning as to whether we are experiencing frost. So when you call, we should have the news for you. Of course we never can predict exactly when the frost will lift and allow for play without damage to the course, but we do our best to provide an estimate for you. We have included an opportunity in this mailing for you to make your annual donation to the employee Christmas fund. Please take advantage of the chance to say thank you to the entire staff and crew at Meadowmeeer (some 15-20 strong) for the service they provide throughout the year to you the members. I know they will be appreciative of your generosity. You may charge your donation to your account, send a check or charge it to your credit books. Just let us know. Starting on Tuesday November 4th and subsequent Tuesdays throughout the Winter months, the Sandwedge Café will be closed. Please plan your visit accordingly. Many of you who participate in events throughout the year have “books money” built up that needs to be “spent”. Besides the employee Christmas fund, use it for guest green fees, carts, apparel, shoes, golf balls, or for food and beverage in the Sandwedge Café. Please make every effort to spend down your “books account” by year’s end. We have started on a bunker restoration project. Many of our bunkers deserve some attention. We’re going to be re-shaping, cutting back the greenside edge, feathering out the sand on the entry side and vigilantly maintaining their improved condition. You can help in the maintenance aspect of the project by always raking the bunker upon your exit and pulling the sand back toward the edge as you step out. I know everyone will benefit from this improved attention to our bunkers. Thanks for your help. We have events planned for the coming months. Special tournaments (Tip & Tuck), Member Wine & Cheese Holiday Night, a Ladies’ Club Holiday Dinner, a Turkey Shoot, etc. Look for details in the appropriate section of this newsletter. I’d like to take this opportunity to once again thank our tournament sponsors for the 2008 season. You’ll find their names on the banner outside our clubhouse. Their support goes a long way to enriching our tournament season. Thanks to all of you, our members, for your heartwarming compliments that you pass on to our staff and me. It makes our work here that much more rewarding. Regards, Charlie

Tournament Results The Memorial Cup is our annual Ryder Cup format. Two days of 18 holes each with one team of 24 against an equally matched team of 24. Although the colors of the jackets may vary (this year it was Black vs. Tan) the enjoyment is constant. We play a 2-man better ball, a 2- man Chapman and then two 9-hole matches the second day. This year the Black team prevailed in a closely fought match. It was a great time for all who entered. The weather cooperated and the event was well received. Thanks to all who came out. If you didn’t play, put it on your calendar for early October next year. |
Ladies Club: The Ladies’ Club completed their season at the end of October. The Annual Holiday Dinner is being held at Kiana Lodge on December 3 @ 6:00pm again this year. An invitation will be sent to each Ladies’ Club member with a request for a RSVP. Please plan on attending. The food is always great. It’s a cheerful way to finalize a very successful season for the Ladies’ Club and find out what’s in store for next year. Men’s Club Please make it known to us in the proshop if you’d like to be put on the ballot for the upcoming season for the offices of: President, Vice-President, Secretary or Treasurer. We’ll prepare a ballot, based on the response and make it available to our men’s club members by Saturday November 22 (at our Turkey Shoot), or just stop by the proshop. We’ll collect the ballots in the proshop up until Saturday December 27th at 10:00 am. On that day we will count the ballots and notify the winners. November is the last month for Wednesday Men’s League competition this year. We’ll resume with competition in March of next year. Thanks for a great year gentlemen. This year’s winner of the Senior Club Net Champion was Ron Coulter winning over Dave Stern in the finals. Congratulations Ron. Thanks to all who competed this year. We had a full field of 50+ year olds enjoying the competition.
