Meredith Hill PTA Programs for 2008-2009
PTA supports many student, family, and community activities at Meredith Hill Elementary. All of these activities depend on adult volunteers for their success. We appreciate all those willing to volunteer, however you must be a member to do so. Some of the activities and programs the PTA has planned for this school year are listed below, along with brief descriptions of things you can to to help.
Art Docent Program - (All year program - help when you can.) Glue the students' artwork to black paper frames and hang it in the hallways; or help with prep work like cutting paper or organizing materials; or assist in the classroom, circulating and helping students with the projects; or even lead a lesson!
    Auction - (Spring)
Audit - (January and June) Three people are needed to complete a check list of items making sure that our PTA books are complete and up to date.
Box Tops/Labels for Education - (All year program - help needed once a month.) Collect labels from teachers, clip to correct size, sort box tops from labels, count, and mail to company. Easy task to do at home while watching TV.
Cookie Day - (Every two weeks.) Re-order, bake, sell every other week with two other volunteers. Fun and tasty job!
Community Outreach - (A few times during the school year.) Coat drive, food drive, giving tree, lost and found bin; make posters and flyers to distribute to students; pick up items and deliver to charity. Minimal effort for big community help!
    Disaster Preparedness
Family Night Events - (Family Dance- October) (Winterfest - December) (Bingo Night- February) Each of these events has it's own list of tasks (some big, some small), all fun!
Fifth Grade Celebration - (June) Parents of any grade can help send the 5th graders off right! Make it fun!
Fundraising - (Fall) Make flyers, put together prize items for display in glass case next to library, collect orders, distribute orders.
Holiday Shop - (December) Order, set-up shop in portable, schedule volunteers, pack up and send items back. Easy and rewarding event for the students and their families!
Laminating - Periodically operate the laminating machine for teachers and students.
Legislative Representative - (A few times a year.) Attend school board meetings and legislative meetings, report back to PTA, submit articles to newsletter.
Meet and Greet BBQ - (September) Make posters advertising the event, make and distribute flyers, shop for food, work the food lines, BBQ the hotdogs, smile and answer questions about the Meredith Hill PTA. Great way to meet people!
Membership - (All year program) Distribute membership forms, collect submissions, enter information on PTA website, print membership cards, distribute to new members, create a fun display in foyer, be excited about PTA! Tina Angell tnangell@yahoo.com
Newsletter - (Once a month) Assemble monthly newsletter (articles are given to you), copy, and distribute to teacher's mailbox
Read and Lead - (Once a month) One person per class to tally time sheets, distribute new time sheets to teachers' mailboxes, help in the Read and Lead bookstore a few times a year, distribute prizes. Let's keep those kids reading!
Reflections Art Program - (Fall) "Beauty is..." is the theme for 2009-2010! Promote the program, collect and submit students' artwork to the district competition, announce finalists at assembly. http://www.wastatepta.org/programs/Reflections/reflect.htm
Staff Appreciation - (Once a month) Provide a monthly treat to teachers, help with the week-long appreciation and breakfast in the spring.
Talent Show - (Spring) Various jobs need to be done to ensure another great show.
T-Shirt/Sweatshirts - (Fall) Create a design, collect pre-orders, order and distribute.
Yearbook - (All year program with a crunch time in the spring.) Be a photographer! Take pictures at events, in classrooms, at recess, put pages together, take orders, send in completed book for publication, distribute to classrooms.
If you would like to volunteer your time and energy to any of the tentatively planned activities or programs for the 2008-2009 school year, please contact Michelle Hayes 253-946-1617 or Tonya Condotta 206-380-3692 (PTA Co-Presidents) or any of the PTA Board members.
