New Moms Resources NSFOM Under 1's Support - Regularly scheduled opportunites to get out of the house and meet other first year parents and their multiples. Pregnant With Multiples? - The University of Washington Medical Center offers classes specificly desigend for parents who are expecting multiples. More information is available on their website. UWMC Multiples Info Breastfeeding - La Leche League is a great place to begin looking for information on breastfeeding in general. They also have information on breastfeeding multiples. Free Formula – Mead Johnson has a multiple birth program providing twins with one case of formula per baby. Triplets will receive three cases of formula per baby. NSFOM members, trial members or people in the greater Seattle Area should notify Membership Chair Amber at amber .at. monozygotic .dot. com for a form to mail to our local rep. Others may notify Mead Johnson directly at 1-800-BABY-123. More Freebies - Keep hearing about those free things that you are supposed to get when you have multiples? Here is a link to get you started on a few of them. Freebies Bedresting Moms – If you have been placed on full or modified bedrest there is a national network called Sidelines that supports women with complicated pregnancies. Their website is http://www.sidelines.org. List of Recalled Products – Because having multiples is expensive many parents choose to go with used children's products. To find out what children’s products have been recalled check the Consumer Products Safety Commission website at http://www.cpsc.gov. Intensive Care Insurance - AFLAC offers Intensive Care Insurance that is very helpful for some parents of newborns. Many newborn multiples will spend a small time in NICU due to premature birth or complications related to difficult pregnancies. What the AFLAC supplemental insurance will do is pay you directly for time spent in NICU. Because this is supplemental insurance, it is not linked with your primary insurance. The AFLAC payout covers one amount for days 1-7, a higher amount for days 8-15. There is additional coverage if the NICU stay exceeds 15 days. The cost of AFLAC is reasonable, and you can still get signed up while you are pregnant. For updated information visit AFLAC's website at http://www.aflac.com. Triplets or more - If you are pregnant with or parenting higher order multiples there are a couple of places to begin looking for information. Both The Triplet Connection and Mothers of Supertwins are excellent national support groups for families with higher order multiples. Preemies - If you are caring for premature infants, or just want to be prepared, this site has links on Kangaroo care, preemie clothing and other products associated with caring for premature babies. http://www.geocities.com/roopage/linkspage.html The following page has survivability rates for premature infants and clear and understandable definitions of some of the more common problems associated with prematurity.
