NEWS Welcome New and Renewing Members in December: Tracy Flood, Sandra Johnston, Naomi Kim, Linda Lee, Thad Martin, and Rogers Williams. Youth & Law Forum a Success! Some 230 youth attended our March 18 educational forum, doubling last year's attendance. 41 legal professionals volunteered their time. Special thanks to Francine Artis, David Fuller, and Roxanne Rarangol for coordinating this annual effort. Todd Howard is our new PCMBA's liaison to the Washington State Bar Association. Thank you, Anita Booker-Hay, for serving as past liaison.
Julie Rho is PCMBA's liaison to the Pierce County Washington Women Lawyers.
Artis Grant is the chair of PCMBA's Judicial Evaluations Committee.
Eric de Los Santos is the social coordinator between PCMBA and the Gay Lesbian Transgender Bar Association.
Seattle University's NAT'L MINORITY LAW STUDENT RECRUITMENT MONTH held a panel discussion by PCMBA members, organized by PCMBA member and Ass't Dean for Admissions, Carol Cochran, at Mt. Tahoma High School, on February 24.

Welcome to the Pierce County Minority Bar Association Website!THE PURPOSE of the Pierce County Minority Bar Association is to facilitate professional development and relationships among the various minority attorneys and legal professionals who reside or practice in Pierce County. It also seeks to foster diversity in the legal community and serve as a conscience of Pierce County minority communities on legal issues affecting them.
ANNUAL WINTER HOLIDAY SOCIAL
Our Holiday Social on December 13 was wonderful! It was held at Djembe Soul Restaurant in Tacoma. This business is owned by the father of PCMBA member, Thad Martin. President Naomi Kim gave recognition awards to Sal Mungia and Lynette Weatherby-Teague. 2007 officers were also announced after the membership vote. They are Tracy Flood, president, Naomi Kim, vice-president, and Todd Howard, secretary/treasurer. Arlene Joe was recognized for her service as outgoing secretary/treasurer. We hope to see you there again next year!

We hold monthly business meetings, have social and networking opportunities, and create venues for educating ourselves and our community. We have volunteer opportunities in a variety of venues.
YOUTH & LAW COMMUNITY FORUM
JUDICIAL EVALUATIONS
PCMBA's Judicial Evaluations Committee (JEC) conducts evaluations on individuals interested in pursuing a judicial position. The committee strives to reflect the broad diversity of practice areas, experiences, and cultures among our general membership.
Evaluation Process
Upon notice of a request for evaluation, the JEC chair will contact the Applicant, set an interview time, forward a confirmation letter requesting copies of the Pierce or King County Bar Association Judicial Screening Questionnaire, or the Washington State Bar Association Judicial Evaluation Questionnaire, and send a list of JEC members and bylaws to the Applicant. JEC members will contact the references listed in the PCBA, KCBA, or WSBA Questionnaire. The interview itself lasts about twenty minutes. The Applicant may make a short opening statement before informal questioning by the Committee members, and a short closing statement at the conclusion of the interview. Committee members will immediately discuss the evaluation and vote on a rating. All information disclosed by the Applicant, and all discussions by the Committee, are kept strictly confidential.

PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION
PCMBA creates opportunities for increasing the skills and knowledge of our members and the legal community in general. The Continuing Legal Education Committee will be sponsoring noon-time courses of interest to attorneys and other legal professionals. Guest speaker forums are also coordinated in more informal but informative settings.

NETWORKING
PCMBA hosts social and networking opportunities throughout the year, including the annual Membership Social, the Summer BBQ, and our Holiday Gathering. Our monthly business meetings begins with a 1/2 hour of networking before attending to the business at hand. Join us!
COMMUNITY COLLABORATIONS
PCMBA participates in Seattle University's Access to Justice Program, the National Minority Law School Recruitment Month, and the Washington State Bar Association's activities in promoting diversity. Members serve on the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association's Volunteer Legal Services Committee to ensure awareness of minority issues, and represents PCMBA on various other specialty and minority bar associations.
