Service projects

Kruckeberg Botanic Garden --------------------- 50-Miler Patch --------------- Service to community

Most scouts are working oh their 50-Miler Award and accompanying patch. You don't see alot of these because they aren't that easy to get.

Those who went on the Bowron Lakes Expedition last summer and/or the San Juans cycling trip the summer before are both eligible to earn this award and patch. The final step is to complete 10 hours of service on a conservation project.

We recently helped with raking, yard work, etc. at the City of Shoreline's newest park: Kruckeberg Botanic Garden. Some of you may already be familiar with the park as it is about a block from Syre.

Check out the link to the gardens above. This is four acres of trees and other plants that would be ideal for plant identification and as an ongoing service project. The garden has more than 2000 native and rare plant species and more than 25 species of birds.

The garden's founder, Professor Kruckeberg, personally offered to teach the scouts about plant identification. Please send any important announcements, photos, news, etc. to Email webmaster
