International Volunteer Work, Community Service, & Teaching Programs If you've always wanted to experience -- really experience -- Africa, join us and get to know Africa through her people, Education, rural villages and Environment.

Use your skills to improve the lives of Youth/children, their families and environmental Education as a volunteer in Tanzania.

Many families in Tanzania have been affected by HIV/AIDS, leaving a huge number of orphans without any support and often ending up as street children at an early age. As a volunteer, you will help in a street children and orphan centre, caring for these children and providing vital support and care to them in their early childhood. .
Choose from a number of service opportunities scheduled year-round in this small, impoverished country. Go on reading more about our Tanzania Orphans and Street Children Project.

TANZANIA ORPHANS AND STREET CHILDREN PROJECT

This project is based in the rural areas surrounding Mwanza City (known as the Rock City) on the edge of the beautiful Lake Victoria. Here you will help to provide vital assistance to orphans and local street children in a vocational support programme, which aims to reintegrate children back into school and society, whilst also creating a safe, stable and caring network in which their rights as children will remain protected and free from abuse. .

PROJECT LOCATION:Mwanza city,on the edge of Lake Victoria.

Help improve impoverished Tanzanian children's potential in this nationally recognized educational program. Work alongside local teachers and students during the school year in remote partner communities. Our hosts make certain your skills and interests are put to the best use on long-term community infrastructure, teaching and medical projects. Your efforts will help ease the suffering and engender hope for the future of students and their families. Lend your heart and hands to make a world of difference!

Caretakers Tanzania brings to reality this year's international motto, "Youth for sustainable development."

ORPHANS DAY CARE CENTRE

COET Children's Centres respects and promotes the rights and well-being of all children. Based on its mission, COET Children's Centres above all engages in advocating for and with children in out-of-home care or at risk of losing the care of their parents.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is the most universally ratified human rights instrument. All but two states have ratified the Convention and thus declared their commitment to uphold children's rights and establish and implement the necessary legal framework.

Day Care activities,
pre-school programmes are provided which are designed to stimulate young children in line with their talents and prepare them for admission to primary school. The focus here is on development through play with regard to social, intellectual and motor skills. Coaching programmes are also available for children with special needs

The projects is within Mwanza City, a 5 minutes journey from Mwanza Airport and 10 minutes from Mwanza city downtown, the second largest city in the Tanzania.

  STREET CHILDRE CENTRE

The Program is working in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Child Protection. Thus, ensure the following guidelines are responded to thorough your work:
  • Responding to the right of survival – food, health and security
  • Providing life skills – education and vocational training
  • Providing children with the freedom to make decisions, regarding their own futures
  • Supporting children in making life decisions and helping them to obtain these objectives
  • Teaching children the traditions and rituals of their culture, to prevent alienation
  • Allowing children to express their creativity – dance, music drama and arts
  • Protecting children from the risks they face – AIDS, drugs, health issues and abuse

WHY WE ARE WORKING WITH KIDS AT THE CENTRE

It is important on this project that we offer the much-needed love and support to these children but also recognise their key strengths and skills, which will eventually lead to their success in everyday life, through your encouragement and careful one-to-one education. Working with these children is an investment, which is critical for their own health and also that of society. Training, educating and supporting vulnerable youth can have a very long-term impact on the socio-economic and environmental problems that are currently found in Africa and Tanzania in particular.

HWY WE ARE CREATIVE AND SUSTAINABLE PROJECT?

This orphan and street children project is focused upon sustainable development and has thus created some innovative programme areas, which emphasise the importance of vocational training. For example, you can help to work with local artists to develop artistic skills in young children and start new art projects and murals around the community:
    • - Sports and game coaching
    • - Education centres
    • - Boarding houses for children
    • - Vocational centres LI>- Libraries
    • - It centres for computer skills
    • - Building life skills and Talents .
