Great Mass of Ice Found Just Below the surface of Mars Nasa's spacecraft seems to have found ice on Mars. The finding suggests that Mars once had life on it. Scientists wonder 'where did all the water go?' Well, they now believe that the oceans froze. Underground that is. In the Equator area, there was not as much water found as in other places. There are 3 papers about the matter. The Oddessy mapped most of the surface. The ice is very essential for life on Mars. Some believe that 1/3 of the planet was water. The ice on Mars is 1/7 of how much there is in Antarctica. The water seems to have become ice or has evaporated into space. There is most hydrogen by the South pole; that means more ice. The Oddessy found almost all of the subsurface ice. People think that there was actually life on Mars.
