Bylaws Revision Unamiously Approved Revision to Posted: May 20, 2008 Article VII, Section 1b: Amend: Officers shall be elected by ballot in the month of Current: Officers shall be elected by ballot in the month of March. Proposed: Officers shall be elected by ballot in the month of May. Rationale: in most organizations, the elections are generally held during their annual meeting. Per Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised 10th Edition states that the annual meeting is conducted the same as a regular meeting, except that officers are elected and annual reports are received from officers and standing committees. Article VII, Section 1c: Amend: Officers shall assume their official duties following the
close of the meeting in Current: Officers shall assume their official duties following the
close of the meeting in July 1 and shall serve for a term of 2 year Proposed: Officers shall assume their official duties following the close of the meeting in June and shall serve for a term of 1 year or until their successors are elected Rationale: To change from July 1st to June would insure that the exiting officers and committee chairs will turn over their records to the newly elected officers in a timely manor and the newly elected officers will be able to hold their first meeting. A special note: the June meeting would be a meeting of the executive board, not of the general membership. After lengthy discussion the bylaws committee suggests 1 year terms, with election for each officer, eliminating the vice president to assume the role of president. This will allow the president the ability to seek re-election, for eligible members to accept to be nominated for vice-president, who may not want to be required to assume the duty of president, and for eligible members to accept to be nominated who would not otherwise because the length of term. Article X, Section 1 & 2 Amend: Section 1:Regular meetings of the association shall
be held Section 2: Special meetings of the association may be
called by the president or by a majority of the executive board, Current: Section 1:Regular meetings of the association shall be held at least (3) times during the school year on 3rd week of the month, unless otherwise provided by the association or by the executive board, 3 days’ notice having been given of change of date. Section 2: Special meetings of the association may be
called by the president or by a majority of the executive board, 3 days’ notice
having been given. Proposed: Section 1:Regular meetings of the association shall
be held monthly during the school year on 3rd Tuesday of the month,
unless announced by the executive board. 7 days' notice having been
given of change of date. Section 2: Special meetings of the association may be
called by the president or by a majority of the executive board, 7 days’ notice
having been given. Rationale: These changes reflect the minimum or required information per the Wisconsin PTA. Article X, Section 3 Amend: The annual meeting shall be held in the month of Current: The annual meeting shall be held in the month of April. Proposed: The annual meeting shall be held in the month of May.
