In MOPPETS, where close physical interaction among the children is unavoidable, germs are easily spread. The following guidelines, established by a group of pediatricians, are designed to keep exposure in the classroom to a minimum.

“SICK KID” GUIDELINES

Please do not bring a child to MOPS who:

*has a temperature of 100 degrees or higher in the last 24 hours (even if your child is fever free with Tylenol - your child must be fever free without medications for 24 hours)
*has vomited or had severe diarrhea within the last 24 hours
*has a continuous or new onset runny nose with green or yellow mucus (clear runny noses are alright)
    *sore throat
    *rashes
    *consistent cough
    *eye infections
*has been exposed to childhood diseases such as chicken pox, measles, strep throat, or roseola
*head lice (child should be free of all nits)
*treatment with antibiotics should be greater than 24 hours

Obtain a note from the child’s physician if he or she has a chronic condition such as allergic rhinitis which is not contagious, but may resemble a cold or eye infection.

Please do not expect the MOPPETS teacher to give your child medication. According to the MOPPETS Coordinator Handbook, no medication – including Tylenol – may be given by any worker. If a child must have medication such as allergy medicine, it should be kept and administered by the parent as needed.

Keep in mind that bringing a sick child to MOPPETS or to an adult meeting may jeopardize the health of others and put him or her at a greater risk of developing additional symptoms.

Remember the Golden Rule of “Sick Day Decisions:” If another child had the same symptoms, would you be glad to have him or her sitting next to your child?
