Did Your Last IEP Feel Like a Kick in the Butt?

(CURRENTLY P2PSS IS NOT IN OPERATION (ADOVCATE BURNOUT AFTER TOO MANY YEARS OF HORROR STORIES) PLEASE USE WHAT YOU CAN FROM THE VARIOUS RESOURCES IN THIS SITE- WE APOLOGIZE THAT AT THIS TIME WE CAN NOT HELP OUT ON AN MORE PERSONAL LEVEL) You are now among friends! We are parents and friends of students with disabilities (Special Needs). We've been there.

Parent-2-Parent for Special Students (P2PSS) is a support/advocacy group. We are open to all and there is no membership fee to belong.

We started in Des Plaines, IL. in December of 1999. We began due to the rampant non compliance of Special Education Law which plagues our public schools.

In September 2002 one of our leaders moved to Wisconsin. One of the main reasons for the move was in search of a school system which understood they needed to follow the laws that protect our students. That didn't happen.

Wisconsin may have a good reputation for education but as many of us know, when it comes to Special Education, that's a whole different story.

Out of frustration, this leader decided that Parent-2-Parent for Special Students could be very useful for Wiscosnin students...hence chapters are forming in Wisconsin.

Parents' Alliance for Compliance in special Education:

Parent-2-Parent for Special Students (P2PSS) is a proud and active member of Parents' Alliance for Compliance in special Education (PACE).

PACE is a coalition of parent groups working to bring about positive systemic change and complaince to our public schools. PACE started out as just an IL coalition. The Parent-2-Parent for Special Students' Leaders in Wisconsin are working to organize a Wisconsin chapter of PACE.

If you or a group you know of are interested in this effort please contact: Eva Marie Roberts (608) 847-5051. Eva is also the P2PSS leader for Juneau and surrounding counties in Wisconsin.

PACE has started a new listserv through a yahoo group. All are free to join and build up our own special ed. community. It's a great way to locate other parents who share a common bond with your situation - ask those advocacy questions - or just vent! Follow the directions from the following link:

We Support Teachers

The National Association for the Prevention of Teacher Abuse (NAPTA) is for teachers who have been subjected to retaliation for speaking out.

Now some have said, "They seem very assesrtive!" Well, quite frankly, that is what happens when you are forced to leave the career you chose to help create a better tomorrow for our youth. You tend to get a little ticked off at the bureaucratic system that is failing our children and teachers. Justice delayed is Justice denied.

P2PSS members led a support campaign for just such a teacher, Cheryl Mix.

You can find her story along with other teacher stories on the NAPTA website. Either click the link to the left of this page pr copy and paste the following in your browser:
