![]() Columbia County Stone Dedicated at The Highground. On a very cold and blustery “spring” day this past April 26th, 2008, the Harry D. Jerred Post #215 of the Wisconsin American Legion in Pardeeville sponsored a veteran’s bus trip to The High Ground in Neillsville, WI. The mission of the day was the dedication of the Columbia County stone placed in the tribute entitled Wisconsin Counties United In Service. Attending the event were a contingent of nearly 60 members of the Columbia County American Legion posts and the American Legion Riders, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Veterans of America, spouses, members of the associated American Legion and VFW Ladies Auxiliaries, and the Gold Star Wives/Mothers. These hearty souls braved the unseasonal 20-degree wind-chills and blowing snow for this long-awaited event. The Harry D. Jerred Post #215 initiated the purchase of the Columbia County stone and provided the seed money to ensure the success and completion of the project. Contributing to the cost of the memorial stone were all of the Columbia County American Legion Posts, the Pardeeville Area 40 et 8, VFW Posts 10263 of Pardeeville and 1707 of Portage, DAV Chapter 60, the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 221 and the Columbia County Veterans Association. Additional contributions were received from Weaver Auto Parts, National Exchange Bank & Trust, UNIMIN, Pardeeville Antique Mall and Pardeeville Kwik Trip. |
