In many instances when our blankets are delivered to a recipient, it is the first time this child has received a NEW blanket. It may be hard to believe, but it is true. For this reason Project Linus Headquarters has some requirements for blankets.

Here's how you can help...

Handmade/Colors:
* Make blankets from NEW, CLEAN, WASHABLE materials in infant, child or teen friendly colors.
* Remember, these blankets are meant to be colorful, cheerful, and cuddly.
* Crochet, knit, quilt, neatly tie your polar fleece or finish the edge on your blankets.

Sizes:
* Project Linus donates blankets to children, aged birth through 18 years of age. Many sizes are appropriate.
* Blankets can be as small as 36" X 36" but the majority of Project Linus blankets are about 40" X 60", or what is called "crib size."
* The Chippewa Valley Area Chapter also accepts blankets as large as twin size for teens.
* Blankets that are targeted towards teen-aged boys appear to be the least donated for the Chippewa Valley Area Chapter.

Fabric Do's:
* Make blankets from acrylic yarn, 100% cotton fabric, flannel, or polar fleece.
* Check your blanket carefully for straight pins.
* Please be sure to cut off the selvage (rolled) edge of the fleece fabric before making your blanket.

Fabric Don'ts:
* Do not make your blankets out of tapestry, burlap, upholstery fabric, 70's type double knit, felt, vinyl, wool, or wool yarn.
* Do not use fabric that has been stored in a damp area or has a musty smell. Mold spores can cause an allergic reaction in a child and are very difficult to remove from the fabric.
* Blankets that smell of smoke cannot be accepted.

We hope these guidelines will help you with your blanketmaking.
We know that our blanketeers want to make blankets that can be used at the Project Linus facilities in our local area.

Thank you for your interest and support of Project Linus!
