THANK YOU AMERICAN LEGION OF FOND DU LAC
For Hosting our upcoming 4th Annual Project Linus Make A Blanket Day on Saturday Feb. 13th between 10AM and 3PM!

**Notes from 2009 Blanket Day also at American Legion** Our goal was to bring our entire quantity of blankets collected to 999 blankets since the opening of our chapter in November of 2006. And wow, did our blanketeers come through for us !!! We collected (some were made at the Blanket Day and some were delivered the day of) over 180 blankets on that Saturday. With the help of our local drop off facilities we made our goal !

You can see all of the photos from that day by visiting the shortcut on the left hand side of this page labeled "Make A Blanket Days"

2nd Annual Make A Blanket Day - American Legion Memorial Clubhouse of Fond du Lac

A BIG THANK YOU TO THE HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION !!
They were generous enough to offer Project Linus a booth in this year's Home and Garden show. Speaking for myself, Penny, Carol and Lisa, whom all worked the show last weekend we had an AWESOME turnout and all of the kids really enjoyed coloring the quilt squares that will be sewn together to form our 1,000th Blanket Donated to the Chapter since November 2006.

Thank you again..... here are some photos from the show :-)

2008 ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE
PROJECT LINUS FLOAT
Project Linus was lucky enough to share a float this year with Relay For Life, just behind American Legion.

All volunteers are welcome to join in the festivities. Parents and families that are interested in decorating and /or riding in the float next year please contact the Chapter Coordinator. We did not have many volunteers on the float this year so we will be working diligently to come up with ideas for next year and show off our "Blanketeers" !!

  PROJECT LINUS MISSIONS
It is the mission of Project Linus to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers”.

A BIG Thank You to ALL of the blanketeers whom have made donations, and to those who may either have a project in process or are thinking of starting one. All of you should feel good knowing that a child in need can have a little comfort thanks to you.

A little boy or girl will chose those blankets and know that they were handmade with love and will help to keep them safe and warm.

It is Project Linus's secondary mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

I know first hand that when I drop off the blankets to the recipient facilities, I get a big smile on my face just knowing how good those little children will feel when they recieve a blanket to take home with them.

To A Child.... A Blanket Is.....

"I would be willing to wager, that as a blanket maker receiving a compliment on a job well done, you may have responded: “Oh, it was so simple to make.

I'm glad to have something to do with my time that benefits somebody. I hear it often!

As a charitable organization, Project Linus reaches out with blankets to comfort children in need. As adults, we see blankets comforting children by offering a soft, warm, protective gift that they can wrap up in, cuddle with, or lie on or beneath.

We recognize the gift of a blanket as an outward sign that someone cares about the recipient in his/her current situation. All of that is true, but we must look farther.

Sometimes when I speak on behalf of Project Linus, I have the opportunity to speak to young children. On an elementary school visit, I asked a group of kids how a blanket can comfort a child. From a child, a blanket is so much more.

A blanket can be cuddled, hugged, slept with, used as a tent, a Superhero cape, a tablecloth for tea parties, a long dress, a sleeping bag, a shawl, a turtle shell, a hiding spot, a cape for a king or queen.

A blanket can be folded up and used as a pillow or wrapped around a secret treasure!

The list went on and on! The kids shared their ideas with exuberance, smiles and happy eyes!

No matter the situation or hardship, kids long to be kids, and it's obvious that blankets can take them places far beyond the confines of a hospital room, shelter or difficult condition.

Blankets are wonderful things, and blanket makers are extraordinary people. If you have merged your time and talent, fabric or yarn into a blanket for a child, you have given them not only the gift of a blanket, but fuel for their imagination and a tremendous boost of joy!

And you thought a blanket was such a simple thing!

Fond du Lac County Chapter

The Fond du Lac County Chapter of Project Linus is located in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
Penny Kollmansberger, Chapter Coordinator, is looking for reliable volunteers to assist in orchestrating the activities of the Chapter. We welcome everyone, young and old, to get involved. There are many things to do both for organizing events and the biggest of all, making the blankets, quilts and afghans that are needed by the children out there who so desperately need to be wrapped with a hug.

Penny works at Quad Graphics full time in Lomira, and lives in Fond du Lac with her husband Mike and daughter Robyn.

Please see the section to the left titled, "drop off sites" for further information on where YOU can drop off blankets in your area.

Thank you in advance for all of your love, kindness and dedication. We are very excited to be involved in this exciting journey. Join us... the rewards are endless !!
