BLANKET GUIDELINES Blanket Guidelines Recipients of Project Linus Blankets are infants through the age of eighteen When people think of ill children, Not all are babies or toddlers - many of them are older children or teenagers. Also, there has always been a shortage of "Boy" blankets, or blankets that can be used by either a girl or boy. If you are making just 1 blanket, please consider making a "Boy" blanket. Please check, double check, and triple check your blanket carefully for straight pins. It's better you find that pin and not the child who receives your blanket. Blankets of ANY size are accepted by our Chapter. Approximate sizes listed below can be followed if you are unsure what size a baby, toddler or teenager could use comfortably. Sizes DO NOT need to be exact, these are simply some guidelines you could follow if need be. Baby - 34" x 34" Child - 40" x 60" Teen - 45" x 72" Make blankets from new, clean, washable materials in infant, child or teen friendly colors. Remember, these blankets should be colorful, cheerful, and cuddly to help sooth it's new friend. You could Crochet, knit, quilt or tie your blankets, or finish the edge on polar fleece. Project Linus chapter coordinators are instructed by Project Linus National Office to NOT accept blankets that are not of excellent quality and must be free from contaminants. Please remember that all Chapters are instructed by Project Linus Headquarters to NOT accept blankets that have been contaminated in any way. Some examples of contaminates would be the smell of fabric softeners and dryer sheets, mold and mildew or smoking products. All of which could cause problems for a child. Blankets that appear to be contaminated in any way will not be donated to a child, rather than jeopardizing the health of those we are trying to help. Thank you for helping to make sure that Project Linus blankets are safe and healthy, and will bring only comfort and security to a child in need. Quilts Please make quilts from cotton or cotton/poly. Quilts need to be washable and durable since they will be washed many, many times. Low loft batting is preferred. Crochet Blankets Use small knitting needles and crochet hooks to make preemie/baby afghans. Little fingers and toes, and medical instruments, can get caught in big stitches. Fleece Blankets Do not cut the fringe any longer than 2" - 3". Longer fringe tangles in medical instruments and tubes. If you knot the fringe - PLEASE DO NOT TIE THE KNOTS TOO TIGHTLY. Please do not make blankets out of tapestry, upholstery fabric, burlap, felt, vinyl, wool, wool yarn, or any other scratchy fabrics or laces. Thank you for reviewing these guidlines, if you have any questions that are not covered here please contact Penny Kollmansberger, the Chapter Coordinator. |
