The best way to advocate for yourself is to be an informed advocate. Whether you are fighting for your own labor rights, or want to impact future legistlation, the key will be educating yourself. Know who and where to go...know who you are up against...if your a member of a Union, you should be aware of your Union's actvities, the people who speak on your behalf, and where your dues go...that's how you can become a responsible PROUD Union member....besides, there may come a time, especially if you are in a weak Union, you will need to advocate for yourself to the Union. (It happens folks...the author of this site is PRO Union, but is also realistic, any organization can run amuck at the hands of a select few and ruin it for the dues paying membership...be educated and empowered not ignorant and complacent)

By using the following research tools you will be on the road to empowerment! Check back often as periodically we will be adding more! Also pay attention to the links at the lefthand side of this page in the LINKS SECTION - You will find links to learn more about your basic worker's rights!

Use Google for a basic keyword search. If you are searching information on a specific person and they have a common name, you may need to add additional keywords to narrow your search...Example "John Doe" Madison WI <-- This will help narrow down your search to John Doe's in Madison.

Google

Search Wisconsin's Labor and Industry Review site website. You can find a treasure of information on this site! Including past decisions from the various departments and courts!!!!!!!
Labor and Industry Review Search Page

Search the Wisconsin's Circuit Courts Here - You will need a last name and first initial of the person you are searching (So if you are looking for small claims cases against a business you will need the name of the owner)

Research the NLRB's (National Labor and Review Board) recent decisions - This site also has a wealth of information:
Law Memo

The National Right to Work Watch, isn't exactly a Pro Union group - But we know that many who visit this site might share their views (Hey, it's a free world and our site is dedicated to provide information not just our opinion)..and for those of you who don't agree, it's good to know what case law THEY rely on! - Give it a look!
The National Right to Work Watch

UNIONS and Finances! How much money does your Union take in...how many members are there in your local? - Often small locals and even some large ones, do not have websites (sad - and some locals need to WAKE UP!) and you, unfortunately, cannot make the monthly meetings but you still want to be informed...perhaps you want to know how much your Business Rep makes...maybe it's not enough for the work they do or maybe they are one of those rare select few trampling over your rights and you want to see how much they earn to do it...search Unions and their finances out here:
Dept. of Labor Union and Trust search (see their tax reports!)

At the following link you can search out attorneys and caselaw. There is quite a bit of information that can be attained on this website - have a cup of coffee ready as it may take some time to find what you are looking for, but it's worth it! (also once you find an attorney or case law....you then can search for further info on it by searching them out on Google -before you know it you will be an old hand at research!)
Find Law

Labor and worker's rights are POLITICS, whether we like it or not -it's a fact and A LOT of money changes hands! Find out whose money supports who at:
OPEN SECRETS (You can sometimes find out more than you intended..have fun!

Ok so now you have gained some knowledge and you know some truth, you want to do something about it - you want to get political - GO FOR IT! That's exactly how change can happen, when people...the average Joe and Jane, speak up and out! Find out who your state and federal legistlators are...where and how you can contact them...also let us know if you did and what issue you decided to bring to their attention -was it a personal work related situation or perhaps support for or against up coming legistlation - By doing this we can help to put you in contact with others who share your viewpoint and you can work together on your issues! The following link is to the AFL-CIO website - they have a page that already has all the links you will need to search out your legistlators (why re-invent the wheel!)
