Our Ministries Ministries of the Church Youth
We care deeply about our young people. We believe they are NOT, we repeat NOT, the Church of tomorrow…they are the Church TODAY! Youth play a vital role in the life of the church, from worship to education to outreach Dare2B This group meets every Sunday evening at 5:00p.m. During Dare2B, we have groups of young people of all ages meet. We also have a group for Parents seeking to rear their children in the faith. Once a month, we ‘Dare2B Together’, with all groups participating together in a faith-based activity. We are the Church Together! CMF
This is our Christian Men’s Fellowship group. We meet often to share Breakfast and discuss the impact that Men of Faith can have on the world in Christ’s name. We also actively participate in our calling from Christ to use our gifts for the betterment of the church building, as well as projects to the betterment of the community around us. CWF
This is our Christian Women’s Fellowship, also known as ‘Disciples Women.’ This is an extremely active group that meets monthly to discuss issues facing faithful women, as well as plan any events that might build up the church and the surrounding community. Bible Study
We are Bible-believing people. We gather every Wednesday at 7:00p.m. to dive into the Word of God, verse by verse. This is a safe place where we can study, ask questions, and give and receive other’s input to learn and grow in our understanding of the Holy Scriptures and God’s calling for us today. Bible Study is timely, and it is communal! God is still speaking, and we listen as a community to hear and discern how God uses the Scriptures to aid us in living life abundant! (John 10:10) Music Ministry
We have a wonderful music program under the direction of Dr. Arabel E. Hatfield. There are a few places where you can use your gifts and receive blessings of fellowship and fun. Bell Choir
“The Ringing Disciples”—If you love music, but don’t want to sing, we have a Bell Choir that practices every Wednesday at 5:00p.m. This is a fun group that requires little musical ‘know-how’, only a willingness to participate and be a part of a group that, together, makes the most beautiful sounds you will ever hear! Children’s Bell Choir
“The Joyful Noise”—Even Children have talents, and even Children should have the opportunity ‘to make a joyful noise unto the Lord.’ (Psalm 66). Adult Choir
The Adult Choir practices every Wednesday at 6:00p.m. and sings a joyful noise unto the Lord every Sunday morning in worship. Our Adult Choir not only sings an Anthem, but they lead us in Worship of God! We, as a people, proclaim our faith and pray our hearts to God through song. Our Adult Choir, then, is also our Worship Leader. They lead us, every Sunday, in right worship of our God and Maker of Heaven and Earth! Sunday School
We believe that Christian Education is an integral part of living the life of a faithful Christian. Every Sunday Morning at 10:00a.m. we have a Sunday School class available for our young people. We also have an adult Sunday School class that meets in the Parlor, and discusses the importance of living a faithful life, rooted in the Scriptures, and blossomed in the context of today’s culture, in which we are affirmed that God is still present and at work in our lives today! Outreach
Not only has Jesus Christ brought salvation into our personal lives, but salvation is a free gift offered to the world! Our calling, as faithful Christians with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, is to participate in the work of Christ in the world. (2 Peter 1:3-11) With Christ, God is doing a new thing! As Christ proclaimed, the Kingdom of God is near! Through our outreach, we can offer the love and care of Jesus Christ to a world that desperately needs it. We can offer, to a world that is suffering and in need, glimpses into what the Kingdom of God looks like—a place where brothers and sisters love each other, share each other’s joys and burdens, and offers, if only for a moment, a place where every tear will be wiped away, and mourning and crying and pain will be no more. (Revelation 21:1-6) We Care Committee
This is a newly formed group of faithful Christians who have made it their personal commitment to help this church be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in this community! Our most recent project has been to ‘adopt’ Hugh Dingess Elementary School. Through the abundance of God and the generosity of the people of this church, we provided shoes, socks, and undergarments to all 133 students! We also provided some food necessary to provide weekend meals for a number of students who might not eat again until they get back to school on Monday. Local Benevolence Fund
We have a small fund set aside to offer a hand up to our local neighbors in need. Through a relationship directly with the utility companies, we provide funds to keep utilities from being shut-off. Food Pantry
We have a small Food Pantry that we can give to those who come in and need some help with groceries. In the event of our stock-pile getting too big, we donate them to the local Salvation Army for distribution Holiday Help
During Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, we accept names of local folks in need, and we prepare food baskets to be delivered to their doors. We believe that everyone should be gathered around a table of abundance during these very special holidays. Card Shower
Everyone likes to get a card or note every now and then. This is especially true for our ill and homebound. Every week, we highlight one individual in our midst to ‘shower with love’ through cards and phone calls. Just one of the many ways we are committed to loving each other around here! Local Community Events
We are deeply involved in local community. Our members volunteer, and often take on projects through places like the Salvation Army. One example, we have a group who rings bells and we also fill Christmas stockings to help the mission of the Salvation Army. Our members also take pride in their volunteer efforts with community organizations like ‘Christmas in the Park,’ Civil War reenactments, and Coalfield Jamboree. We are a church that is an active member of the local community! National and International Benevolence
Around here, we take very seriously the call to give of your treasures and love your neighbors.(Matthew 19:16-22) We not only give of our treasures to aid the local community, but we also give to aid our brothers and sisters around the country and around the world! We do this through our denominational body, and specifically through the ministry of ‘Week of Compassion.’ (www.weekofcompassion.org) Through this fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) our dollars are most efficiently used to provide short-term aid in the wake of natural disasters, as well as provide tools for long-term sustainability. Not only do we ‘give a man a fish to eat for the day’ but we also give that man the tools and knowledge and the ability to provide for a lifetime. Church Community Events
We have a schedule full of events to build up the Body of Christ through fellowship dinners and fun activities. Just recently, we had a ‘Church Family-Fun Bowling Night,’ where everyone was invited, free of charge, to the local bowling alley for some fun and rejuvenation. Another example, during the month of November, every Sunday is full of special dinners after worship to celebrate important moments in the life of the Church. We are a faithful people, and we are a people of Fun and Fellowship! Congregational Officers
We are a Spirit-led Church. God, through the Holy Spirit, is invoked every time we gather. And we believe that the Holy Spirit can work through the ministry of all believers, not just the Pastor! We have several opportunities for members to lead in the mission of the church. Elders, Deacons, Jr. Deacons, President of the Congregation, Treasurer, Clerk, and Trustees—these are leaders of the church granted with the authority of the Holy Spirit and conferred by the congregation, to live out faithful service to Christ’s Church. Every functioning committee—Worship, Education, Stewardship and World Outreach, Evangelism and Membership, Property and Grounds, Personnel, and other Auxiliary committees—all these committees are in charge of the functioning of the Church for the mission of Christ. Again, these are Spirit-led and function out of the ministry of all believers! ![]() |
