You Are Invited!

The men of the West Virginia Region have joined with the men of five adjacent Disciples Regions in co-hosting a major men’s event next summer. Much successful effort has resulted in an exceptional opportunity for men to experience spiritual renewal, inspiration, and fellowship, and also gain first-hand knowledge about the historical beginnings of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Planning for this event has been accomplished with the encouragement and full support of Disciples Home Missions and the General Conference of Disciples Men. You are invited and encouraged to take advantage of this unique opportunity.

Our Easter Cantata

On Sunday, March 25 at 11:00 a.m., the Chancel Choir of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) presents...

Russell Mauldin's O What A Savior"

What a Savior we have in Jesus Christ! What a victory we celebrate today! This is the story of Easter, the testimony of every redeemed soul, the celebration of victory over sin and life everlasting through His death on the cross and His glorious resurrection...O What A Savior!

Created by Russell Mauldin and Sue C. Smith and masterfully arranged in the Ready to Sing style by Russell Mauldin, O What A Savior is a 30-minute Easter musical designed for the small-to-medium-size choir, or the large choir with last minute performance needs. Performance options include a visually compelling DVD Accompaniment Track to further enhance your choir's presentation. Featuring both new and classic songs for the church, the music of "O What A Savior" is perfectly complemented by its simple yet powerful, narration.

Songs include: Our Great Savior Medley (O What A Savior/Our Great Savior/Alleluia! Alleluia!) • Hail Jesus Medley (Victory Chant/Because We Believe) • Something Beautiful • Embrace the Cross • Jesus Paid It All • He Is Risen! • O What A Savior • That's Why We Praise Him with Alleluia! Alleluia!

The Event: “XTREME FAITH-Bold Action: A Gathering of Disciples Men”

July 13-15, 2012 at Bethany College.

The Gathering includes inspirational presenters, a timely and engaging array of workshops, and tours of the historic areas, sporting events, a pig roast, and important hands-on mission work in support of the historic areas for willing volunteers.

Showers of Blessings:

David & Jennifer Godby, Shepherd Center, Room 201, 202 Peachtree Rd. Northwest, Atlanta GA 30309-1465 - Jennifer's Cell (304) 687-2999

Last Minute Thoughts

God wants to use you to make a difference in His world. He wants to work through you. What matters is not the duration of your life, but the donation of it. Not how long you lived, but how you lived. If your're not involved in any service of ministry, what excuse are you using? Abraham was old, Jacob was insecure, Leah was unattractive, Joseph was abused, Moses stuttered, Gideon was poor, Samson was codependent, Rahab was immoral, David had an affair and all kinds of family problems, Elijah was suicidal, Jeremiah was depressed, Jonah was reluctant, Naomi was a widow, John the Baptist was eccentric to say the least, Peter was impulsive and hot tempered; Martha worried alot, the Samaritan woman had several failed marriages, Zaccheaus was unpopular, Thomas had doubts, Paul had poor health and Timothy was timid. That is quite a variety of misfits, but God used each and every one of them for his service. He will use you too, if you stop making excuses.

Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

The church is identified with the Protestant “mainstream” and is widely involved in social and other concerns. Disciples have supported vigorously world and national programs of education, agricultural assistance, racial reconciliation, care of the developmentally disabled and aid to victims of war and calamity.

The denomination now counts about 700,000 members in the United States and Canada in about 3,700 congregations. Numerically, the strength of the Disciples of Christ runs in a broad arc that sweeps from Ohio and Kentucky through the Midwest and down into Oklahoma and Texas.

Vision of the Church

The Vision of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is to be a faithful, growing church, that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion for justice. (Micah 6:8)

 Mission of the Church

This Mission of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is to be and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, witnessing, loving and serving from our doorsteps "to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)

Lord's Supper of Communion

The Lord's Supper or Communion is celebrated in weekly worship. It is open to all who are followers of Jesus Christ. The practice of Holy Communion has become the central element of worship within the Disciples tradition.

Disciples' observance of the Lord's Supper emanates from the upper room, where Jesus shared bread and wine with his disciples on the eve of his crucifixion. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, the living Christ is met and received in the sharing of the bread and the cup, representative of the body and blood of Jesus. The presence of the living Lord is affirmed and he is proclaimed to be the dominant power in our lives.

 The Chalice

The chalice symbolizes the central place of communion in worship for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The X-shaped cross of the disciple Andrew is a reminder of the ministry of each person and the importance of evangelism.

Congregations and ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) are free to use the chalice in publications, web sites and other media. Organizations not affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) are asked to obtain permission for the use of the Chalice by contacting:

Communication Ministries, P.O. Box 1986, Indianapolis, Indiana 46206, 317-713-2492, news@cm.disciples.org
