Dr. Gary Patton

Dr. Gary L. Patton is a licensed counselor in West Virginia and Kentucky as well as an ordained minister. He also holds certifications with the National Board of Certified Counselors and the Association of Professional Chaplains.

From 1990 until 2005, Dr. Patton was the Director of the Department of Spiritual Care, Counseling, and Mission at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Under his leadership, the department earned a national accreditation which was one of only twenty-three in the country at that time. Since 2005, he continues to work in counseling and ethics at St. Mary’s along with being an Associate Professor at the School of Professional Counseling of Lindsey Wilson College.

Dr. Patton earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Ohio University in Counseling. He also holds the degrees of Master of Arts in Counseling from Louisiana Tech University and a Bachelor or Arts in Biblical Studies from Anderson University.

Dr. Patton has spoken for state, regional, and national conferences. He was a guest speaker for two weeks at the Autonomous University of Merida in Merida, Mexico. He has been published in national periodicals and produced a video on the topic of grief and bereavement entitled, The Forest Will Find You.
