AmeriCorps Project
The Literacy WV AmeriCorps Project provides 15 full time AmeriCorps members to local adult literacy programs throughout West Virginia. The members work with adult learners in a variety of service capacities including Basic literacy and/or English as a second language instruction, GED preparation, computer literacy and workplace skills. Members also recruit and support volunteers and participate in community networking.
Full time AmeriCorps members provide a minimum of 1700 hours of service in one year. They receive a living allowance and health insurance benefits. Upon successful completion of service, they receive an education award of $4,750. The WV Commission for National & Community Service provides technical assistance, training and monitoring of the Literacy WV AmeriCorps Project.
