Monthly Message Prayer There are several directions in which a discussion about prayer can go. Whether it be what we should pray about, when we should, or even how we should pray. How about what should we be doing while praying? What stance is appropriate, or is one more appropriate than the other?
None of these examples are a specific command that one should stand, kneel or prostrate one’s self while praying, nor do they say that anyone of these makes a prayer more acceptable to God. Also among these examples of prayer, there is no example of anyone sitting while praying. Does this mean we shouldn’t pray while sitting? Another practice that has become more common is lifting hands when praying as found in 1 Tim 4:8. “I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands , without wrath and doubting;” This is another action that is not condemned , nor is it required of one when praying. However, an important thing to notice about this is that Paul is speaking to men, not women. |
