SYSTEM OF CARE TRAINING WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
Designed for parents, professionals and paraprofessionals working with children and adolescents in the System of Care and their families.
- Marshalling the Troops: Strength-based Individualized Service Planning
6 hour group training workshop
Participants will learn to design highly individualized service plans and supports for youth with serious emotional and behavioral challenges and their families, and will work as team members in the development of a “Wraparound” Service Plan.
- Systems of Care Orientation
1-3 hours, customized to audience
Participants will understand the principles of collaborative community based care, the importance of involving the child and family in all aspects of service planning and support activities, and how family members, professionals and policy level representatives can specifically build toward implementing a System of Care.
- Solving the Puzzle of Children with DSM-IV Mental Health Diagnosis & the System of Care
3 hour self-study or facilitated video workshop
Participants will understand how the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) is used by various agencies and professionals, some of the most common DSM-IV diagnosis categories in children, and unique issues facing family members of children with SED.
- Family Centered Practice
6 hour community training workshop
An active and interactive training designed for participants to identify the nine key elements of family-centered practice, and identify what changes need to occur within their communities and agencies to move toward a more family-centered and culturally competent approach to service delivery.
- “Our Town” & the Dynamics of Difference-A Family Centered Workshop on Honoring Family Differences
2 hours; targeted to audiences of 18 to 40 participants
How does “our town” deal with families and their differences? This lively, interactive workshop helps participants experience and appreciate family differences from a strengths-based, family centered perspective. Participants will utilize a simulation game to learn about family diversity issues and social barriers that limit access to community resources, and gain insight into culturally competent practice with West Virginia families
